I should have mentioned that the bridge pins are Bob Colosi bone pins. I have Larry Robinson doing a truss rod cover inlay as well.

Steve, this build has really opened my eyes to the tremendous amount of work and craftsmanship that you guys (luthiers) put into these instruments. I'm excited about this one....but also excited about my next build - a Kinnaird - have you heard of this guy? Haha!

Congrats, Steve!
There are many guitars that I'd love to own -- but none that I desire more than an SJ from Jim, especially in the classic BRW/cedar combo. RE the shade of your top, it will probably look darker in person. Tough to really gauge on photo. |

Thanks Mau! I'm very excited. I was a little worried about the top shade, but in the latest pics it looks darker - and I love the grain. But like a nice meal, you can only admire with your eyes so much - tomorrow I'll get it in my hands!

I won't worry too much about the top shade, assuming you want it to be darker. They will turn much darker in about a year. At least that is what I've noticed on my other cedar top guitar.

I was going to post the same thing. I've noticed that my cedar top has gotten a shade or two darker since I acquired it.

Hi Everyone!
The guitar is now in my hands, but since I've been travelling, I haven't had a chance to really spend time playing. My initial reaction, though, is much like you would expect - I love the tone...a sort of delicate clarity. I won't wax on about how it sounds (particularly as I'm not a good enough guitar player to truly appreciate the tone), but needless to say I am more than pleased. As a coda to this thread, I wanted to share the truss rod cover that Larry Robinson did for me. I talked to Larry about wanting to personalize my guitar a little bit - I didn't want to go crazy with blingy inlays, but something that had meaning to me. We agreed on a truss rod cover inlay. I'm originally from Maine, and like many Mainers, I like winter. There are many things that remind me of winter in Maine - one of these is the sight of winter snow clinging to Hawthorn tree which still have winter berries on them. Larry came up with a design and completed this inlay. I think it looks terrific - he really captured what I was looking for. The inlay is Koa (branches), south african pink ivory (berries) and MOP (snow). A big thanks to Larry for doing this one!!

That TRC is superb. Love Larrys work. Sure hope you get to spend some quality time with that guitar soon!
