Cool reading everyone's thoughts. To recap- is the bottom line that aside from the added features of the battery, hi-z, phantom there are still some of the mixer issues the original Eon One had?

Yeah, I can think of many scenarios where an all-in-one unit with battery power (that sounds good no less) would be uniquely useful, and other situations where it would simply boost the convenience factor so high that it'd make for a much more enjoyable gig. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford the price premium if I wish to do so.

Great link to the stick comparo, thanks.

I would agree with your statement, JBL did not fix the overall gain of the mixer.

They added Hi-Z, which is good for acoustic guitars with no preamp, but no help for the directly connected mic. When testing the Hi-Z, I was able to get my guitar MUCH louder than my directly connected mic.

The Bluetooth input is very loud and shows the potential of the One's output.

While the Ones are capable on their own for smaller/quieter spaces, if you need the Ones to reach their output potential then you will need an amp'd signal going into the One mixer. You can accomplish this by using an outside mixer or pre-amps prior to the input. This obviously defeats the purpose of an all-on-one if you have to do this and there is no reason to get the Pro if you have to use an outside mixer, just get the regular One or an entirely different system.

I intend to use the One Pro with a VoiceLive 3 Extreme which is a pre-amp for my guitar and vocals so I don't feel the effects of this problem with either One. Even on battery, this will not be a problem because I have a battery solution for the VoiceLive 3x.

I have not plugged in a keyboard or my Beat Buddy, though I will try when I get my replacement, to see how strong they sound is in comparison to the directly connected mic and guitar.

If I need more power than the One I have K10s and a KW181. So the JBL One or One Pro will not be for everyone depending on how you plan to use it.

Thank you for the detailed reply! That was my thought, but wanted to confirm before decided whether or not to pick up a Pro. Suppose I'll stick with my Bose L1 1s for now.

Hi Dragonfly what mic did you use?

Since phantom supply is now provided, one would be able to use a condenser mic with a higher sensitivity to get more volume on the mic input.

I think the main problem of all these compact devices is the lack of input gain pot.

they probably tested it with few mics and set the gain the lowest to prevent one very sensitive mic to overload the input...

I used a TC Helicon MP-75 (hyper cardioid). This is the mic I use live. I did connect a condenser mic, CAD C195, just to make sure that feature worked. I did not check the difference in levels between the dynamic and condenser mics. So I don't know if a condenser mic is going to give you more gain, I thought it just gave you more sensitivity. I haven't found a good reason to use a condenser mic live, because I sing loud enough and close enough to the mic. I know for timid singers or perhaps singers who are afraid to get close to the mic, a condenser mic can overcome this, but I'm not sure of any other reason a condenser mic live would be desirable. When I had the original One I tried an Ear Trumpet Edwina, a condenser mic, and it was wrought with feedback. I'll have to test the C195 more when the replacement Pro comes, likely next week.

The problem with both the Hi-Z and phantom is that it takes over two inputs at one time. What if I need all 4 inputs and need only one to have phantom power? I suppose I could use Cloudlifter CL-1 if I was using one condenser and one dynamic mic at the same time. I could also use the Cloudlifter CL-2 with two dynamic mics with phantom power from the One to boost the signal 25db. The VoiceLive 3 has phantom power on it, but that power is so incredibly noisy it is unusable. The Cloudlifter CL-2 would be the perfect, small solution for getting more gain from dynamic mics though. I would use this before I would do a condenser mic.

I have asked in this thread before about the use of condenser mic live with no response. Who is using a condenser mic live, why and which mic?

I used to use a pair of Audio Technica ATM-5R mics with one of the main reasons being their minuscule size. We'd been using a pair of Sennheiser 441's and were tired of how huge they were and the clips were always getting broken when we saw a band playing one of the other rooms in the casino using these tiny mics. They were very nice mics, and predictably crisp but we ended up replacing them to get away from having to always look to see if we'd have phantom power or would have to bring our own, and then those micro XLR connectors which again required that we always bring the cables too.

when I put ON the phantom power on my JAM 150 I can use both condenser and dynamic mic.

A SM58 does not care if there is phantom power or not.

My Shure beta 87a is a condenser and is much more sensitive. It means that for the same amount of sound pressure the signal is stronger and requires less gain.

I bet they included the phantom power request and when they plugged a condenser mic, the signal was too hot. So they lowered the gain not thinking it would affect the dynamic performance.

I tried using condensers live before and they are generally feedbacking nightmares. So now I'm on dynamic + EQ (which sounds condenser-like but less prone to feedback). Dragonfly sir, can you record a demo with the new Eon One Pro to let us know how it sounds?

This is good to know about the SM58. I'll check to see if this is the case with my MP-75 and other dynamic mics.

I will when I get the replacement. It will come next week, hopefully without any other issue.

I'm curious about others' reviews. I wasn't the only one who bought one. Musician's Friend and Sweetwater both have them in stock now and I know I wasn't the first one on the list. Hopefully, other people will chime in with their experience too. I'm curious if that whining noise is going to show up on other units and if the inputs are going to be noisy when wiggled.

I had the Transporter Bag with my original One and hated it. I will not be getting that again. It was nice to have it on wheels, but that whole velcro thing at the bottom was just stupid. They have one for the One Pro and looks like nothing has changed in the design.

I use handheld or stage style condenser mics, I have an AKG C900 and a Shure Beta 87 for back up . You definitely have to be aware of the feedback potential although the stage style have a bit more feedback resistance than most studio models . With my current set up I use a Fishmann SA220 I set it behind me and to the side with my mic angled slightly away. I position it so My head and body are between the mic and speaker and it works pretty well for quite to moderate locations.
I use them because the sonics IMO are quite a bit better, more accurate, dynamic, and present than something like a 58 .

Apart from posting here or on other user forums I've been checking Sweetwater's and MF's sites for reviews (have not done so tonight yet) and so far no joy.

I've got the Transporter Bag and hate both the clips and velcro but have been just ignoring the side velcro and that's made it much easier to deal with.

I kinda liked the bag. It is one of my favorite parts of the Eon One system. :-). The Velcro keeps the dirt and dust out when you store it too.
