I'd look at a used Guild, Larrivee or an Eastman. Stonebridge/Furch are another brand i would strongly consider although for $1100 it will be one of their lower range models, but still arguably a lot more quality and tone for your money than the lowly Martin and Taylor series guitars.

So many great options. So little time. Life is short. And wonderful!

I think I'm set with my stable now but IF I was looking for something in that price range, I'd look for something used like the mahogany topped Taylor 300 series or the Martin 15M that are all mahogany.

I haven't really spent much time playing either one, so call me shallow if I say I just really like the way they look. They have a really cool retro Americana style vibe to them.

I didn't realize until the other day that I had a Larrivee dealer here locally. I stopped by there today and played an OM-40R, D-03R and D-40R.

The OM sounded amazing and was a joy to play. It had a real deep bass and nice balanced highs, and the bass was tight. Very nice. Then I played the dreadnaughts and they sounded like the OM, only more open, more projection. Not as boxy.

That D-03R might be the best sounding guitar I've ever played, and I've played all of the popular high end Taylors, Martins, Huss and Dalton, Gibsons, as well as several Collings and McPhersons. Not even considering it was only priced at $1375, it was better sounding than anything I've ever played.

And....

No, I didn't come home with it

Maybe for round 2 you oughtta get a mahogany top Taylor 324? Second hand they'd come in around that price range. Nice guitars, too.

Another interesting guitar in your price range is the breedlove oregon dreadnaught. Second hand they sell for around that price, and the ones I've played have been impressive guitars. One I played, in all myrtlewood, I thought was one of the best sounding guitars I'd ever played when I tried it out. Visually, they're also quite stunning, which is nice if you're performing, especially.

I have several Taylors. While they all have their own voice, they're all definitely Taylors and I've found myself wanting to sell all but my favorite and branch out into other voices.

I only have EIR guitars, and my favorite Taylor is an 810. What I want now is something a bit smaller and with a mahogany tone. I'm pretty set on a Yamaha LS16M at the moment...

I know if I played a guitar that I considered to be the best-sounding guitar I've ever played, and it was only ~$1400, I would not leave without it!

The reason I say this: in 1995 I played a gorgeous Larrivee L-series cutaway at Sam Ash in NYC. I played that thing for 90+ minutes straight and only left because we had a plane to catch. I was in that 'zone' all of us artists crave. I actually had the money in the bank and a credit card and could have picked it up for $2400. I'll never let that happen again

Default Another option

I just bought a second guitar to dedicate for DADGAD. My budget was the same as yours. Just bought a Larrivee OM-02 new for $929. Just arrived today. Can update review later.

I know what you mean. I've regretted not buying certain guitars in the past. With this Larrivee, I loved the sound and feel, but wasn't crazy about how it looks. I need to feel the same way about it's looks and sounds, and in this case, the look of it wasn't doing anything for me. I'm not a fan of all satin guitars. I wish that OM-40R or D-03R were gloss, or at least had a gloss top.

Larivee and Eastman were my thoughts as well.

Still looking around. Found a 2015 Larrivee L-03 in new condition for $750 shipped. Also looking at a D-03 for $900, Gibson J-15 for $1000. Then, there's always the 1996 Taylor 510 from the original owner and it's basically never been played.

get a custom deadwood https://www.deadwoodguitarcompany.com/ 1100 will get you nice guitar from Jason. I own one love it beast sounding guitar I have. Hemlock top and black locust back and sides. Om style body . Good for strumming and finger picking. All his pre-made guitars are 16 frets to the body I believe with a 1 3/4" nut.
