Default Thoughts on the Vox AC15C1?

I wanted a nice tube amp and settled on the Vox for the money I had to spend. It has the greenback speaker in it. Any pros or cons to this amp? I still have time to return it if I want to.

This will be for my new Nashville Deluxe tele, my Pro Jet (humbuckers), and my archtop. I suspect I'll go between country twang and lightly crunchy rock.

Ideas?

Nice amp, especially with a Telecaster. I have to ask though, what's your neighbor situation? Despite its modest 15W rating, it's a loud amp that can really hold its own.

I've got a very similar home built amp with a Greenback, and it can get painfully loud when turned up far.

I love mine. I've heard another one with a Celestion Alnico Blue speaker and I loved that even more -- darker and heftier. $200+ upgrade, though.

i have one and absolutely love it. it takes a while to break in new speakers as i found out when a friend brought over his that is two years older than mine. i use an aby pedal to get both the normal and top boost channels. i did replace the output tubes with some el84s from tube depot, and the preamp tubes with jj 12ax7s and like them better than the chinese originals but some people feel the opposite. i also replaced the reverb pan with one that has less of a tail ,cost was $20 and a few minutes to take out all of the back screws.

the amp plays very well with my tele as well as strat and les paul. just tweak it until you like it.

quite a bit of info on the amp from this search of the tele forum.

play music!

Don't play electric anymore, so I sold mine. But . . . . . .it was the best amp I ever had. I've been lucky to own a bunch of nice ones -- Mesa(s), Victoria, Dr. Z, numerous Fender tube amps, Savage, etc.

I bought the Vox AC15 C1 and replaced the reverb tank with a larger one, put in a Celestion Blue speaker, bought some really good NOS tubes, and did what is called the bright cap mod (which is just finding the cap and cutting it).

It was the finest amp I ever had, and it wasn't bad without the upgrades. It had a lush reverb and the tube tremolo would throb so you felt it. The Blue speaker would chime for days. I kept it until I decided to just go acoustic except for bass. Jeez, I should have kept it.

I, too, have one and like it a lot. You should have no complaints with it, and there are lots of great tones to be had. As someone above said, Teles sound great with it, and I have found that I like it equally well with a Casino and a Rickenbacker. I play both channels simultaneously like muscmp mentioned in his post above; but rather than an aby pedal, I use a 2-output volume pedal, which allows me to blend one channel into the other at any level I choose.
Have fun with it!

Great amp. You can read about all kinds of modification done by people. I loved mine right out of the box, and I still do. I have two T type guitars with different style pickups and a Reverend FlatRoc, and it is is great with all of them. I would love to hear it with a semi hollow body. My buddy plugged his 70's Les Paul standard into it and immediately wanted one.

I will also chime in with a resounding yes for the Vox AC15. They are fantastic amps for the money, and work great for country and rock. Paired with the Nash Tele it will be very pleasant.

Like someone already stated, allow those speakers a break in period and it will only get better.

Great choice!

BoneDigger... I think ya done good, buddy! If it's anything like the AC10C1 all-tube amp I bought last year, I think you'll love it.

I use my AC10 with everything from Les Pauls to Strats to Teles to PRS SE Semi Hollow, ES-339s, D'Angelico EX-SS, Elitist Casino, and more! Wonderful amp, nicely sized and priced.

Key is to spend time really tweaking the tones, input, and master volume controls... there is a lot of variation to be found in subtle tweaks of those knobs. I like a relatively clean sound, heavy compression (mid 70's Dyna Comp compressor), with just a mild bit of tube overdrive tone - sweet and the AC10 does it with ease. You'll have a goot bit more volume with the 15 watt vs my 10 watt; I can't even get close to using even 10 watts (I'd be fine with about 2 watts, honestly), that's where the master volume earns it's spot on the control plate.

I got the AC10 because all I need it for is my music room and at that, it's got nuclear volume well-beyond my needs. I'm confident I could gig small clubs with the AC10, but I won't be doing that anymore. Blissfully retired.

Enjoy, buddy - VOX makes great amps, and has for a very long time.
