Summertime
Hi everyone! I struggled with how to approach this, as its such a great tune that's been done in so many different ways, from slow and somber to upbeat and breezy. This is my arrangement, and I enjoyed working my way through all of the chords, although I'm sure some are not accurate to the original. I welcome and look forward to any feedback, critiques or suggestions.
The guitar is my Santa Cruz OM Grand, with the Santa Cruz low tension strings, recorded with an Apogee mic straight into my iphone, no post-processing. Thanks for listening! |

Fantastic....the jazzy/bluesy inflections are really sweet. And the low end on that deep bodied SCGC is amazing!

Wow, Larry, I loved it!! That's one of my all-time favorite tunes. Ella Fitzgerald's version on, "Live in Berlin," sends shivers up my spine. Gershwin would smile at your rendition.
Do you happen to have that arrangement tabbed out? It's wonderful… please post some more. Santa Cruz sounds great... |

Regarding that Ella Fitzgerald version: I'll post it here so others can see. It is one of my very favorite pieces of music ever. I've watched this video many, many times over the past few years, and it has the same spine shivering effect on me every time. Thanks for bringing it up! |

What a performance, Larry! For me, nobody sang like Ella. Her voice was an instrument like no other. I saw her perform live once and even got to speak to her as she left the hall. What a special night that was...
Wish you had tabs... I might have to watch your performance a bunch of times! |

That was really nice. I played bass to that song in clubs when I was 18/19 years old and had never heard it !
It's been one of my favorites ever since. Your guitar sounds great! |

Simply outstanding. Aside from the tasty fills and guitar prowess, that SC sounds full, throaty, dry... and just perfect.
So thanks for giving me new GAS!

And Eagles, Stones, Deep Purple, etc..... I just happened to get a job as a bass player for an established Country Band in the East Valley (Phoenix) and they did a haunting slow rendition of Summertime that went over really well in the beer splashed Saloons of the West ! |
