Default A Mighty Wind

Anyone seen this spoof on folk music? Supposed to be kindred spirits with Spinal Tap!

Is it worth a rental?
Thanks, Scott

Absolutely worth a rental. It's really well done, and has a heart too...it spoofs with love, if you will.

Honestly, the other movies those folks did are pretty brilliant too, Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show.

Christopher Guest's films are great. Don't think I've seen spinal tap, but the other three are a lot of fun. I think I like Best in Show most.

Yes. It’s a great movie, if you like that genre. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think most acoustic guitar player will appreciate the humor in the movie.

It's one of my very favorites. Think "This is Spinal Tap" for folk music.

Isn't it some of the same actors and writers?

Yes, same guys who played Spinal Tap play one of the folk bands in Mighty Wind. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Schearer, if memory serves.

All of the movies are largely improvised, as well.

All great films. They record LOTS of improv (no script) then edit it down from many hours for the best scenes.

My three faves:

1) Waiting for Guffman
2) This is Spinal Tap
3) Best in Show
4) A Mighty Wind

Chris Guess is a genius.

Its almost off-topic but whenever I hear the name "A Mighty Wind," my memory brings up this fellow and his song by that name:

Two rather unpleasant concert memories from '77 linger around that name, surrounding a period when I was dating a particular girl while in college:

I took the young lady to see this fellow Terry solo in the convention room of a hotel at the University of Tennessee and ended up having him catch me before I could leave and do the standup comic schtick of insulting an audience member, me specifically, from the stage, as I attempted to leave to catch a ride home. That'll color your outlook a little.

I then took this same lady to see another artist named Larry Norman at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum a few weeks later and this guy Terry suddenly popped up as the opening act. I liked Larry and, shall we say, didn't particularly appreciate Terry. She liked Terry but not in the least Larry. If you know the two artists you'll know what's coming:

A few weeks later the lady and I went our separate ways. I worked with Larry Norman a few years later. RIP Larry.

Nearly off-topic. Isn't it funny how memory works?

Bob

Apparently Liam Gallagher (Oasis) went to a Spinal Tap concert and 'A Mighty Wind' opened for them.

"Who are these guys and what is this ...?"

Then it was explained to him that these were the same actors as Spinal Tap.

"Actors, what do you mean actors?"

He got up and left.
