Default Where to order a black Taylor style pick guard?

Would like a black one to match the bridge and armrest. I checked Amazon. There are a few. The reviews were all over the place. Some said...perfect fit on my Taylor...others said....what were they thinking?

Where to order?

I'd contact Taylor directly. Pretty sure they will sell you one of the black ones from their factory. They used to sell them through the store on their website, but I think if you just call, they'll set you up.

Good idea. I checked their website and none were listed.

You know, it isn’t that difficult. All you need to do is get a sheet of black pickguard plastic from Stewart-MacDonald or another luthiery supply house, then use the original pickguard as a template to cut the Taylor pickguard shape out of the sheet.

You can do the work yourself or ask your friendly local luthier to do it.

In any event, if Taylor doesn’t have a black pickguard for you, it’s easy to make your own.

Hope that makes sense.

Ive ordered a few over the years from taylor directly.
The ones on eBay or Amazon have looked sketchy to me. The bottom is too curvy. They dont provide soundhole dimensions either for some Ive seen. When you call Taylor they will ask your exact model and what color you want. They were sold on their website at one time but dont anymore. The black guards show scratches really bad just so you know.

I've been told when I called Taylor that they don't list everything in their "Store" that they have available. I know, sounds self-defeating; but bottom line is to give them a call....

I ordered one from Taylor, via my local guitar shop, for a Baby.

KC is correct; I bought a guard directly from Taylor by phone. They ask for the guitar's model number to determine the radius of the rosette. That dimension determines which of their pick guards fit which guitars. As I recall it was less than $10.

Easily done, Horse. Heat it gently with a hair dryer or a hot water bottle, then peel up from a corner. Go slow and keep heating as needed. If the pick guard is stubborn, some waxed dental floss will help. Then use naptha to harmlessly remove any leftover adhesive.

Reinstalling is also easy. Put it in the proper position and use some low-tack painter's masking tape along one edge. Flip it over, peel off the adhesive side's paper backing and flip it back into place. You only get one try! Rub out any air bubbles and make sure the adhesive fully contacts the top, working from the center outward with finger pressure. Done.

Thanks guys for the tips!

I did it............but.............. I love it without the pickguard! Went to cancel the order, but she had already been boxed and shipped.

Anyway, here she is.

You need to cover that tan line. The black pickguard will look good.

If you like the 'naked' look and you're a heavy-handed strummer, then you may want to consider a transparent pick guard to protect the top. It may even help to hide the tan-line if you position it right.

I have one of those clingy transparent ones that you take on and off. Will the tan line fade?
