Default Stairway to Heaven intro

I decided to get my classical guitar out after being in semi-storage since I bought it in 2015. I then bought myself a footstool and music stand to help me learn, and set out to teach myself. I don't read music that well but in order to strengthen my 'muscle memory I wanted a piece I could play that I'm familiar with. While it may be a cliché the intro to Stairway to Heaven is a perfect piece for practicing finger placement and rest stops. I don't read music fluently (working on that) but I am very familiar with that tune. So why not!

I think it's great that you're learning a piece that you know and like, regardless of what others may think. Especially if it gets you motivated to practice. It sounds like you've got it coming together - congrats for getting the guitar out of storage!

BTW: many guitarists (including myself) can't read music. Are you learning to read music or Tab? (there is a difference).

See if you can incorporate the bass line there as well. It’s pretty simple, but you do need to keep a barre across the bottom four strings on the fifth fret.

I wonder how many times I played that?

Thing is I'm not trying to play that particular piece of music, I'm training my fingers. The thumb doesnt need to be involved. Its all about getting a smooth rest stop technique, training my fingers to hit the correct string.

Sorry I should have said notation. That itself is a challenge enough. TAB just seems another thing to learn. And it always looks upside down to me.
