Default Nothing beats Elixirs But Price is Gross

Yeh, I said it. Put on some D'Addarios on my J45 today. TONE DESTROYERS. Just awful. The bass string sounded like an elastic band within 2 hours of playing.

Elixir Nano Phosphor Bronze....thank God you exist.

Now get the stupid price down already! When we bust a string we don't want to get taken to the cleaners.

Hmm, I have EJ16s on my (new to me) J45 and like them. Excited to try others as I haven't heard the Gibson 80/20s (or anything else) on this particular J45, but certainly nothing offensive about the D'add PBs, they seem to still be improving.

In any event, I haven't been a huge fan of coated strings on other guitars, but they do last a while and aren't Elixirs just over $10? Doesn't seem that bad if you love them and they last a while.

I really like Martin Lifespan Custom Lights on my 000-17SM. They sound woody, but they have a bit of sparkle. I like em. They ain't cheap either but they last forever!! I can get 6 months easy!!

Why do you want to reduce profits to a company making a good product that pleases you?

I'd be worried at what part of the production process would suffer and result in a lower quality string.

I don't consider the price of Elixirs to be excessive given that they last noticeably longer. Also I purchase them in bulk, a dozen sets or more at a time. That brings the price down further.

Go to "Strings & Beyond" ... they have great prices on Elixir to begin with and they are constantly having 10% & 15% off sales events. Just get on their e-mail list and they'll let you know whenever they have a sale.

Try as I might I just don't care for daddarios. They turn my fingers black. I much prefer the coated type. I wait til dealers have coupons or discounts on sets of three.

Exactly. Given how good they sound, how long they last and how often you can buy them at decent discounts, Elixir PB Lights are worth every dime in my book. Sound great on my Gibbys. But tone is mucho subjective so YMMV.

This ^^^ I have gone almost a year on some guitars. They are cheaper in my opinion. EXPs don't last nearly as long.

which ones are you using that last that long... I've used a few different types of elixirs and none of them sounded good after a couple to three months. Longest lasting ones that I've tried and sounded good were the lifespan sp strings and even then I had to replace them every 4 to 6 months or so.

I put Elixir Nano Phosphor Bronze's on my J45 - not so great. There I said it.

I prefer Gibson Masterbuilt Premiums. To each his own.

I've had a good experience changing from the Elixers you referenced to Martin SP Phospher Bronze on my Gibson Jumbo . The Marquis SP sounded good too.
