Default Build Photos: Slobod OM28 (Circa Guitars)

February 2014 update: All the links in this thread are dead. The pictures of this guitar can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/1009474...7635302613238/

Hi All,

John Slobod (Circa Guitars) is building me a Braz/Adi OM28.
* Flamed Maple Binding on the body.
* Ebony binding on the fretboard.
* Pyramid bridge
* Gold waverlies with snakewood buttons.
* Herringbone top purfling.
* zigzag style backstrip.
* braz peghead overlay.

It'll for the most part have a very style 28 feel too it, although I decided to use the maple binding in lieu of ivoroid. I'm also going to have John put on some side purfling.

These are some pics John just sent me, plus a few of the raw wood. I'll update this thread with more photos as they become available.

Regards,
Scott

PS. How un-bevelsnobbish of me, eh?

The flamed maple wood that John will make the body binding from:

Hi Scott:
NOW THAT IS SOME TRULY ELEGANT "OLD MARTIN" BRAZILIAN!!! Just fantastic! Did you choose the set, or did you let John pick it out, either way, if it sounds anywhere near as wonderful as it looks, it will be tremendous.
Congratulations.

Also a very very nice fine grain Adi top, it also looks very very vintage "Martin".

Congrats all around...what a great foundation to begin the build with!!!

Very Best Regards

Thanks.
I actually chose this set. The braz is an old and dry quartersawn set that John said was easy to work with. The adi is fine grained (20-25 gpi and higher at points), nicely silked and very stiff. John Griffin at Old Standard wood supplied it. Should be a winner.

Sensational Braz set! Will be an amazing guitar, I'm sure. Luck with your commission!

Very nice. John makes a great guitar. I got to play Steve Baughmans 12 fret slope shouldered Slobod dread not to long ago, which was pretty cool. Nice drier pre war type tone, very different from my guitar.

Congrats on your OM. You're in for a great journey with John.

BTW, in the first photo, the back and top under the go-bars in the background are for my Italian spruce/Macassar ebony 00 cutaway, my second Circa, so I guess our guitars will be 'fraternal twins,' completed around the same time.
