Default Western Swingmeisters "Hot Club Of Cowtown" With Frank Vignola

Here's one I ran across the other day--a quite lively live performance, indeed, by western swingmeisters Hot Club Of Cowtown with Frank Vignola. Recorded at The Sanctuary Concerts, Presbyterian Church, 240 Southern Boulevard, Chatham, New Jersey on April 2, 2011. Uploaded to YouTube by an individual named Frank Sole on April 3, 2011.

Video admittedly not the best, but it provides an excellent audience perspective of the exciting, dynamic musical demonstrations on stage.

Hot Club Of Cowtown is of course composed of Whit Smith (guitar); Elana James (formerly Elana Fremerman--fiddle); and Jake Erwin (bass).

That guitar Whit Smith plays, by the way, is a 1946 Gibson L-5. Here's what he has to say about the instrument: "It began life as an acoustic non-cutaway guitar. Some years back someone gave it a cutaway and a paint job. I think of it as my rescue dog. A guitar I saved from the pound. It sounds and feels great and even under severe travel circumstances, always delivers."

Hot Club Of Cowtown with Frank Vignola play the Tin Pan Alley-era standard "Chinatown, My Chinatown" composed in 1906 by William Jerome (lyrics) and Jean Schwartz (music):

Indeed.

Folks should check out numerous other videos of Hot Club Of Cowtown available, both on YouTube and their own web page. Extraordinarily entertaining and consistent high quality of virtuoso playing by all three members of the group, indeed.

Hands down, The Hot Club of Cowtown is without a doubt one of the finest bands around. They are one of my favorite acts to catch live and never miss them when they come around. Whit Smith is an outstanding hot guitarist, Elana James is a fantastic fiddle player and sultry singer and Jake Erwin is a dynamic slap bass player.
I have every album by them that I can get my hands on and look forward to their next concert and album.

You don't realize how Frankensteined Whit's guitar is until you get up close, and then it's like "whoa!" Sounds great, though!

Hands down.. one of the HOTTEST groups of musicians I've ever seen. Been a fan of Cowtown and Frank for many years.

I've played with Frank once while we were teaching at Fur Peace and not only is an incredible musician but one sweet guy as well.

Thanks for posting that one!!
