Here's my current thinking. As of this weekend (it's late March 2014) I've played three of them and have become disenchanted with this model.... I can also confirm they are inconsistent. The local GC had one that sounded better, felt better and had a better quality top and back than the my local Five Star Gibson dealer... $1499 is the street, I was able to get a retailer to go down $100 more to $1399. I'm in Houston. Hope some of this information is useful.

Chaddy, just noticed you could have $30k in guitars, maybe more. You literally could open a music store.

Talking

I've had a J-15 for about a month now. I love this guitar. I've been playing the heck out of it since I got it. I left the light gauge 80/20 's on it. It still sounds great. The "fit and finish" is outstanding. The guitar seems well balanced to me. I bought it on-line. Couldn't be happier with it.

Default Gunk in the grain

I just went in today to play a J-15 at GC. Interesting thing... I absolutely loved the way it sounded, and it seemed well put together except for one thing. The fret board had some... gunk.. on it, and the guitar had only been in there for a few days, which is weird. Could be just some grimy kids getting their hands on it, but also it seemed like there were small gaps in the grain where the gunk was. I dunno. Hope this helps.
