Simple looper with one push stop/re-start
Every time I try to research loopers, all the focus is on how complicated and multi-layered you can make a loop, while all I want is to be able to start playing live at the beginning of a song, then stop the looper, not turning it back on again until I want to solo over that initial loop, without having to double click.
It looks like the simplest looper allowing this type of operation is the TC Ditto x2, but I know I can't be the only guy that wants this simple type of operation, so I thought I'd post up and see if there were any other options that fit this criteria.

I use the TC Helicon PlayAcoustic for this, obviously it includes other stuff but I am more than happy with the looper.

JamMan Express XT is worth a look. If you decide to add more looping power in the future it syncs with the larger JamMan pedals.

I love the Ditto X2! Hard to beat its simplicity and I really like the large volume knob which I'm constantly controlling with my foot!

I love my Zoom G3, I use it for my effects and my looper during solo acoustic shows. Simple to use, with separate start and stop buttons, all for $99 used Huge value for all it does for my show.

The basic Ditto. I had a Boss RC-2 and it was overly complicated and required me to bend over constantly, literally and figuratively. The Ditto is plug and play.

I think I read that you have the Boss VE-8.
Why not just add the Boss FS5u footswitch? It does the job... |

ditto on the ditto.. and the x2 is the way to go the x1 is a bit fiddly with the single button.

And if you only just need a good and simple looper, the Ditto X2 is the best option. |

This is a great box! I use it the exact same way. Some effects, lots of loops.

The easy way to offer this function would be to let the end user simply make that selection.

I have a ditto but wish I had the two-button version. I fumble a bit with the single button presses
