Default My first song!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU6BD...e=channel_page

I was looking to get some feedback concerning this little sketch. This is my first time attempting to "write" something and it was pretty challenging overall. This is by no means a finished piece. I'll use the feedback I get here to change things up and post it again -- hopefully in a more cleaned up and musically sensible form. THANKS EVERYONE!!

Nicely done. I dig the overall rhythm and use of harmonics. Nice tone too!

Very nice groove you set up--your playing is very loose but precise at the same time. I don't know how you guys do that kind of stuff, with all the percussion and harmonics..... Your technique is excellent!

The end caught me a bit by surprise. I thought it might resolve back to the opening riff again or that it still had somewhere to go when it just sort of ended.

I agree 100%. In the finished version, it'll definitely resolve back to the main theme. I've got a few other little turn-around licks and ornamentations that arent present now, but will be (hopefully) in the finished version. I'm still not entirely sure how I want to end this thing, though. I've got the PERFECT ending chord, though!

Thanks! I was wondering if the harmonics were too much. It's really easy to overdo it with them.

Brian, nice playing, and I really enjoyed the song. May I make a request? Next video, please include your head...just a personal pet peeve of mine is watching a headless guitar player on youtube!! It's like watching just the feet of a dancer, as if only the feet are involved in dance!! If you're shy and don't want to reveal your face, wear a hat pulled down over your eyes, wear large sunglasses, or even a paper bag, but show a whole human playing the guitar.

You got it. My cam is connected to my laptop so its gotta pretty narrow field of vision. Nevertheless, the new video will include my infamous mug.

Great stuff, Brian. I like the moodiness of the piece and how it evolves into a groove that had me nodding my head to the beat. I wanted it to go on longer and to have a decisive ending. I look forward to hearing the "finished" work.

You're already aware of it, and this is the only improvement I would have suggested.

First song, huh? I could listen to an entire album of playing like that.

Better get to work, Brian. You only have 9 songs to go for your first 10 song CD.

That's a great song, love it. Really great overall feeling to it. If that's your first attempt at writing - I'm looking foreward to your next songs! It really starts out like you want to hear the whole song.

What guitar is that, by the way?

Thanks a bunch -- hopefully the next stuff I come up with will be strong, too. I'm horrible with music theory and I know that's the biggest thing holding me back.

The guitar is a custom shop Taylor GA (Sinker Redwood/ Braz)
