Default My first solo guitar originals

Hi guys, these are them. Feedback very much welcome! The recordings are pretty quiet - headphones are ideal.

You are an outstanding talent!

I liked the second one best.

I respond to melody more than rhythm, so I personally would like to hear the same song played at about half speed to better appreciate all that is going on.

Thanks for sharing your talents.

Really cool. Nice playing and sound. Very deep and warm - maybe because of the downtuning. Congrats and greetings from Cologne, Germany!

I find it incredible that these are your first two originals. They both show a very high level of both musical and technical proficiency. Something I would expect to be hearing from someone who has a large catalog of original compositions. Not much to say but but to keep doing what you're doing because it is working very. very well.

Haha! It's so much easier to "paint by numbers" though!

Noledawg! Thanks so much! I named the piece after Amiri Baracka's groundbreaking book, so in a way, it's a tribute to ALL of the black artists that appealed to and influenced new America.

Thanks, Steve! The recording thing is a moving target, but I try my best.

Thanks Earwitness! This was actually the first of the two I wrote, and definitely more "home" for me stylistically, so I'm glad that one is going over so well. Amiri tends to take quite a few different forms lately. My goal would be for everything I write to be a bit more open to improvisational whims, but I'm trying not to make that too obvious. That take was a little over 10% improvisation.

Thanks kerbie! First time's the charm, I guess! The other piece was written in about a day...and it shows! haha

Many thanks! Yeah, I'm tuned down a half step so that surely adds a little extra something. I'd love to try it with medium guage strings...

Thanks SO much HHP! That really means alot. It's a TON of work - honestly I wonder if it's worth it sometimes.

I really enjoyed it. And I would say yes it is worth it (as a listener). There is probably a balance somewhere between making it work and making it fun. I like painting by numbers too... but I also like expressing myself (although I have nowhere near the degree of proficiency that you do). I express myself more like a babbling baby.

These are excellent, Brian. Your capabilities are way beyond mine for me to offer any meaningful feedback other than to say I enjoyed them and am impressed.
