Default More April Snow

Woke up this morning to snow on the ground again. I think we've had more snow From Easter to mid-April than we had all winter. A joke is a joke , but c'mon, its Spring, its my 1st Spring/Summer retired, and all i do is plan fishing trips I can't take until the weather warms. Got a bunch of brand new tackle I haven't been able to use yet and I've got the maps of every DNR property in 50 miles memorized.

It's crazy weather, even for Virginia. I woke up to snow flurries, and it will be seventy degrees by the end of the week....

We drove back from Pittsburgh Saturday night.

We hit an intense white-out snowstorm between Erie and Fredonia. Couldn't even make out the road. Had to go super slow, guided by the reflectors on the side of the highway.

Seriously intense snow.

The BBC reports today of a big increase in Antarctic snowfall. Apparently it's risen by 10% over the last 200 year period.

It must be this global warming thing.

And ironically I saw "back in season" as of yesterday, which made me happy as it is a favorite of mine

They are predicting more snow next week here. I can tell you that this is not normal. A warming environment holds more moisture. When it turns colder the moisture becomes snow. Hench, more snow. It's a fact explained by physics.

In lieu of politics I can offer you only irony.

Yeah, on the early news cast this morning the anchor opened with, "It's April ninth and it's snowing." To which the weather lady said, "It's gross, I know." Springtime in Ohio!

We've had the sort of snow we wanted in December over the past few weeks. The only part that's no fun is on the whole there's still been too much warmth to enjoy it and the storms have been at a rate that's slowed the trails drying up.

The unpredictable weather has made it tough for our ski club operations. Club in this case is really a private ski area with jumping, biathlon, Nordic and alpine. We opened late and closed the season early.

It's also been a challenge for all of the MTB trails. They've been vulnerable to damage later than ever and more so in the spring when this less predictable weather has been happening. With experience 1990s through now I see something's changed for sure. We're having to repair shaped dirt much more often.

None of this would bother me like many if not for the extra work of if the outdoor sports conditions would be better.

Harry,
I feel your pain. My last year in the valley, it snowed once in May. I stopped counting how many days JMU shut down. My students didn’t much like having make-up days on Saturdays.

Enough is enough.

Peace,
Jimmy

I'm in Chicago for business. Light snow all day. Cubs' home opener postponed until tomorrow.
