Default Brad Daniels Kolaya OX

$2850 or will consider trades for 12 fret with 1 13/16ths nut

In my quest to downsize to only 12 fret guitars I have sold off a few nice ones
( Petros / Baranik / de Jonge / Goodall / Hoffman ). My Kolaya OX is my last 14 fret holdout and it is now time to let it go.

As many of you know, Brad Daniels ( Oxwood Guitars ) builds wonderful instruments. My Kolaya is flawless in fit and finish. I would best describe the sound as '' Crystalline '' Rich and pure notes that will satisfy the most demanding finger style player and..... the Master grade Alpine Spruce will take a very aggressive pick attack. An overall very fine guitar.

Brad's neck carve has become my favorite. A soft '' C '' profile is both comfortable and quick. The Spanish Cedar neck is light in weight and the guitar is perfectly balanced when played sitting.

The Manzer wedge sure adds an element of comfort.

1 13/16ths string spacing at the nut
2 1/4 string spacing at the saddle

Lower Bout 15.75
Depth at tail 4.875
Depth at heel 3.675
Body length 20
Scale length 25.25

Default Black Limba

I was asked about Black Limba. Here is Brads take on it.

''Alpine is a brighter top wood of the Euro family. With the Alpine I was trying to balance the low end that inherently comes with larger bodied guitars. Alpine also seems more punchy to me with better clarity and definition, which I thought would help to color the woodiness of the Limba. I've always been a fan of Mahogany, and Limba is just about a drop in replacement for it. I love the warm, woody mid-range and how it offer's just enough harmonic to keep it interesting. I also love how it projects".

Really love the look of this guitar--I remember drooling over it in the past. Fortunately, the larger lower bout takes it out of the realm of possibility for me! Would love to play one of Brad's guitars some day. Good luck with the sale!

I've been fortunate enough to play two of Brad-built guitars and they are terrific. I'm considering having him re-voice the Ensor that I have for sale. I can't buy this one, but can assure you the builder crafts fantastic guitars.

I own one of Brad's guitars and mine is also double sided. Amazon Rosewood on the outside and blood wood on the inside. My understanding it is done to make the guitar more stable. I really dig mine.

i'm pretty sure this picture of the fish-eye fret markers is a victim of cut&paste because this here guitar is MY Kolaya guitar .

and i'll vouch for the tone of brad's custom guitars. he makes amazing instruments!

Default Neck picture

Wencyjr you are correct.

Someone asked if the neck of my Kolaya was cantilevered. I posted this picture to show a closer view of the neck over the body.

I should have posted it as a separate post...... did it late last night and was not thinking.

I removed the pic from my original ad.

Default Raised neck

Reply from Brad Daniels

Hi Daniel,

You are correct, it is not cantilevered. It is raised off the top by a shim of Spanish cedar to induce a negative neck angle. This is, in theory, to achieve more monopole top movement which contributes to bass response and overall power of the instrument.

End of reply.

It does contribute to the bass response and Kolaya guitars sure have a lot of power.

One more thing...I'm not sure if the neck carve on this one is the same as Wency's, but if so, Wency's was the most comfortable neck I have ever played. No joke...it was that easy to play, at least for my hand.

There are no fret markers.

This is a great guitar. I had an opportunity to spend a month or two with the guitar while it was in Hawaii. I thought it played very nicely and the neck felt awesome. It was a nicely balanced guitar... And that Black Limba was killer to look at. Both my girlfriend and her little sister really liked it. Ultimately, it solidified my purchase of the Carmen-13. Plus, Brad is a great luthier.

I'm a big fan of Brad's work...great fit and finish and attention to detail. I was lucky to own one of the Kolaya guitars for a while and would own it still if I hadn't needed to raise some money for another purchase.

Whoever ends up with this one will not be disappointed...best of luck with your sale!

Default Kolaya

No fret markers on the finger board but there are dot fret markers on the side of the neck.

This Ox is a real beauty and a real fine sounding guitar finger picked and strummed.

Smile Another beauty graces the AGF

I'm guitared up at the moment, and this one is too big for me as well, but it sure looks like a very very beautiful instrument! I would love to try one in a smaller size…
Everybody play pretty!
Cheers!
