Default My arrangement of 'Fever'

This is a track from my new CD, The Wall Talks. It's the Eddie Cooley/John Davenport song, Fever, originally recorded by Little Willie John.

I'm playing it on my National Resolectric in C'Vestapol tuning (open D down a whole step, so C), accompanied by Mauro Refosco on conga & cymbals.

I hope you enjoy it!

Regards,
Howard Emerson

That sounds great Howard, and the arrangement really takes off at the 2:10 mark or so when that slide work comes in. You truly have a distinct sound. Maybe it is the drummer in you that learned to play a guitar instead!
I have a letter coming to your PO Box!

Outstanding, Howard... I love it! I have always enjoyed that tune... I remember Peggy Lee's version quite well... a very sultry, nightclub feel with interesting percussion.

Very well done... I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Andre,
If you mean the PO box that is listed on the website, DO NOT SEND THERE!. It no longer exists.

Go to Contact page and when you click that you'll see our home address......if that's what you're referring to by 'PO Box'.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Very cool! Very professional sounding. Love your use of harmonics and that funky rythem! Are you playing all the parts on this? The guitar tone sounds great.
Cheers,
Jasper

Thank you, Kerbie!

You should make a point to hear the version that inspired me: Little Willie John.

Hi Jasper,
Thank you so much for the kind words! So glad to hear that I sound professional....I've been around the block a couple of times!

Yes, I'm playing both parts on this, kudos to Les Paul for inventing multi tracking, of course:-)

I played the original track on my Nat'l Resolectric plugged into my Fishman Loudbox Performer. One channel has the magnetic pickup, and the other has the internal condenser mic I installed. This is what gives the unique sound to the basic track.

The bottleneck was done in 2 sections. The section that comes in after the chorus has my Nat'l Columbia magnetic pickup plugged into a Fairchild Limiter direct, but split into a Vox AC15 which is mic'd.

The outro, on the other hand, is the same pickup, but straight into my '55 Danelectro Model 68 Special Series D amp, pinned, no pedals. I think Fred mic'd it with an SM-58.

Glad you enjoyed it!

HE

Back story to Peggy Lee version is bass player Max Bennett suggested she record Fever and the rest is history. Max is a local hero, I see him from time to time at my barbershop and music shops. He has some amazing stories.

Thank you, Kevin!

The percussionist is Mauro Refosco. He has recorded & toured extensively with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Byrne, The Lounge Lizards, etc. He's from Brazil but came to the US to attend Manhattan School of Music.

He's only playing conga & cymbals on this track, but on the closing track, Uh-Oh! he plays......Rebolo, pandeiro, guiro, caxixi, chocalho. Look them up if you want to see pictures.

Anyway.....he's the real deal!
