Default Playtest of Andreas Abel armrest (video)

The rear edge of the upper bout of the OM1000N2 was cutting into my arm so I ordered one of the Andreas Abel armrests, which most often seem to be used on classical guitars. A tad pricey but very well reviewed. Installation is easy, just a turn of the threaded bolt to tighten the stops against the soundboard and back.

Absolutely cured the comfort issue and now I can play for hours without any problem. This armrest really is a brilliant design, sitting up higher than most. One caveat, however, is that the contour of the Abel allows it to go only partially around the upper bout, meaning you can only set it so far back without then losing contact of one of the inner contact points. Not a big issue and you could modify to suit your need. Those with longer arms may like to move it farther around the curve of the upper bout, but as it is the armrest is about right for me.

As for the effect on the sound of my Rainsong, I'm impressed. Since the top is unencumbered by my arm, the sustain and tone of the guitar sound better than ever.

Yes, nice playing, Jon.

As for the armrest, I'm curious to see the clamping mechanism, so if you can post a pic of that perspective, it would be great. I assume removal is real quick and easy because it seems that it must be removed to fit in the case.

Edit: Nevermind about the photo. I was curious enough that I found a YouTube demo. As long as there's no risk of marking the guitar, even if it's left on for long periods, I'm kinda interested in this. If you don't mind me asking, how much is it and did you find the best price and where? Thanks!

Yeah, this is pretty cool since you can take it off- the only reason I would ever be interested. I put a JP Armrest on my Rainsong and I'm very happy (which is a good thing since it is a permanent install).

Wonderful Playing!

Being that the tone of a RainSong is significantly affected by direct arm-pressure on its top, your armrest has not only given you greater playing comfort but enabled your RainSong's tone to breathe! Nice addition!

What a cool idea, and easily removable too. I might have to think about this one. Thanks for posting.

Love the playing and the Rainsong sounds great too....never wanted to put one on with tape and such. This looks promising. Thanks!

Some fine playing, and great sound from the RainSong! I bought an Access gig bag that I use with my RainSong, instead of the hard shell case it came with. No doubt one could make that arm rest fit with the gig bag - do you remove it each time the guitar goes in the case?

After getting a guitar with a built-in arm rest bevel, I am sold on the premise.

I don't remove it because I don't keep my CF in a case! Just hang it on the wall since there are no humidity concerns.

Jon, please follow-up at some point to let us know if a longer term affix to a CF guitar leaves any marks whatsoever. Thanks.
