Thee Days (It's So hard To Pull Through)
A song inspired by walking through my city centre! Walking through my city’s streets in the hour just before dawn Sleeping bags and rags lie in front out of me Strewn out on the pavement floor A woman in front asks how she might help? She’s not prepared for the anger and screams This is a city of pain and anguish today No more the celestial city of dreams It’s not just a problem of ceilings and walls But of complex and unmet need So many now living their lives out on the edge So many now who’ve taken their leave Chorus These days, it’s so hard to keep trying These days, well what can we do? These days, it’s just so hard to survive These days it’s so hard to pull through Returning home the night falls dark, an icey wind, the cruel winter’s bark Behind the church a soup kitchen van That very modern city landmark A ragged army is out there in front Patiently standing in line A nation’s failure is on display tonight You look after yours and I’ll look after mine So I scuttle on by to the warmth of the bus To get home as quick as I can Close my door to the world out there on the street To real life in this cruel, hard land Chorus These days it’s so hard to keep trying These days well what can we do? These days it’s just so hard to survive These days it’s so hard to pull through As we drive on through these city streets So many now seem so blind To the chaos and pain we’re cruising through To those so left behind It’s not just simply a home they need But a system that truly cares A society that cuts through the bull**** Where troubles are properly shared Well I am walking through these city streets As cold and mean as can be Another day lived right out on the edge In our shared society These days it’s so hard to keep trying These days well what can we do? These days it’s just so hard to survive These days it’s so hard to pull through

Hey Andy, I just listened twice through. Great song! I commend you on tackling this difficult and important subject. I noticed that your lyrics as written are quite different than those that you sing. Very powerful, and musically it has a good hook. I especially like the chorus.
If I could offer one suggestion, and you can take it or leave it of course, but it might be even more powerful if you slowed down the tempo a bit. I really like the quality of your voice. A little slower and your lyrics would not only be more easily understood, but you would also take on a little Mark Knopfler type of inflection. Again, great job, and thanks for sharing your song with us! |
