Does the APSE sound similar to the Shorty?
Hey,
There is a possibility for me to try a shorty when I return to England for Christmas (there is a dealer a few hours away on the train from my home town). Would trying the shorty give me a good idea of what the APSE sounds like? As humans can only value things by comparison, how would it compare to a L13 (my only point of reference for CF)?

Have not tried the APSE
I own a shorty and I can't tell the difference between that and the APLE. Or a different shorty I tried. Until you plug it into an amp of course Naturally, all things strings related (brand, age, condition) are in play here when comparing. David PS. I have settled on Monels for mine... |

I couldn't tell you because I have no real hands-on experience with the APSE, but I do own the Shorty. I think that the main differences other than tuners and electronics is in the build- the APSE is full carbon fiber offering you the classic crystalline Rainsong tone whereas the Shorty has a carbon fiber fiberglass hybrid back and sides. According to Rainsong and Ted at LA guitar sales, the Shorty was designed to emulate a more woodlike tone. I don't think that my Shorty sounds like wood but I do think it sounds great, and the like wa3nko stated the Martin retro strings pair up very nicely with the Shorty.
I really do love the finish on the new APSE though
