1967 Martin D-28 Brazilian Rosewood Dreadnought Acoustic TRADE PENDING
TRADED shipped/Paypal'd, less for non-fee payment and/or local NYC deal
I'm selling my 1967 D-28. Not much to say - these are pretty legendary. I'm not an expert, but I think other than a $200k D-45 and a Pre-War D-28 ($40k+), these models are the most desirable vintage rosewood Martin's. This one is quite special, in my opinion, because it has 1) no cracks in the body, top, or sides 2) the original pickguard The pickguard almost always shrinks on these and causes cracks, but not this one. I checked with my luthier, 20+ years at Mandolin Bros, and he said don't replace the pickguard prematurely - just keep an eye on it. The only issues are 1) a hairline crack on the bridge, not through to plate, between the A and D strings and D and G strings and a small gouge behind the G string. No structural effect. A luthier should be able to fill the fracture to be invisible for less than $100. Or just leave it. 2) a small piece of the fretboard came off above the 14th fret when this guitar was refretted Straight-grain, quarter-sawn Brazilian rosewood like this is mostly gone. Nowadays, you see stumpwood with crazy patterns being sold at a premium as 'unique' or 'figured' - not the best wood for stability, if a crack forms, etc. Tonewise, the guitar is very balanced with string-to-string clarity on chords. Not a boomy bass like many dread's. Has that characteristic shimmer and overtones you can only get with Brazilian. Equally fantastic for strumming, finger style, and/or flatpicking. Many images here: --DELETED-- After-market hard-shell case I could do a trade+cash (from you) deal but trade value of yours should be $2k or less. Be forewarned, I have more than enough gear so will probably politely decline. Trying to cash out a little here in gear. Last edited by ArchtopNYC; 06-15-2017 at 08:43 PM. |

that is beautiful Brazilian. You just can't get that quality anymore outside of the stuff that's been shelved for 30+ years.

Great looking 28, this is the last of the tortoise guards, I believe Martin started using the black guard sometime during 67 ?
