I own several of them but would recommend spending the money on a G&L Asat. I think they are a much better value and have a wider range of tone. -- Darwin

Darwin - thanks for the recommendation. Are G & L licences by Fender?

No, they are an independent company, which is why their Teles are not called "Teles" but rather ASats. However, the company was started by one George Fullerton and one Leo Fender. So you are getting a Tele designed by Leo Fender.

I have a "Leo era" ASat.

If you can find one of these to play, it would be awesome; very versatile guitar.

That being said, I have a new American Standard Deluxe (I think...now I feel silly...) with the belly cut, noiseless pickups and compound radius neck. If you have the budget ($1400 - $1500 US), it's fantastic and can play just about any kind of music you want.

Save a little more and get an ASAT

ASAT, Partscaster, boutique, etc. All good options.

I took things to a slight extreme with this Stambaugh custom.

Thanks! It's pretty wild. I can't get the Hipshot Detuner to work very well, but I haven't found myself reaching for it. Sometimes I wish it also had a G bender.

Lol....I didn't even see you had the de-tuner. Crazy u DO got everything on that Tele. Always wanted to mod a Tele with a Strat pickup in "Da Middle". Haven't gotten around to it yet. How does it sound? Muddy on a Tele?

Oops......back to the OP. I vote for G&L's. I got some. G&L pickups have the secret tone ingredient, adjustable pole pieces! And on a Tele. ....perfect.

It's a little more punchy and less compressed than a Strat, mostly due to the lack of trem and routing. Like most, I rarely run it solo.

I've owned a few Teles over the last 30 years, and played 100's more, and my all time favorite is the Yamaha 1511MS Mike Stern signature model. There are lots of great Teles out there, but the Yamaha is often overlooked when discussing the best of them.

American Standard tele is the way to go, like every is saying on here. The price is worth the inveestment. Maybe even the American Deluxe thinline.. You got go wrong with either one, and both also come with a Fender Hardcase.

I guess those are replacement pick ups. They don't fit very well. Looks bad
