I have 6. I can only handle 6. If I have any more some will get neglected. I try to keep it there because it becomes tiresome to keep them humidified and with reasonably fresh strings.

THIS THREAD WAS STARTED A WHILE AGO, BUT REMAINS SOMEWHAT ACTIVE. I thought this poll was relevant given the new thread discussion about owning a single guitar. This poll with over 1100 votes might be of interest.

I wonder how much the number fluctuates among each member here. I see that I put in 6 to 7, but I'm sure I've retired at least 1 and added 2 more. That bumps me up to the next tier.

I voted 8-10 but I am really not sure at the moment...probably should find out, but...just not very motivated about dragging stuff out of closets and from under beds right now, and besides that I can't really remember if I have any loaners out...I think I do...

8 Currently. 2 hollow/semi hollow electric and 6 acoustics-electric. In the process of slimming down the herd on the recommendation of my wife...lol... I only really play 1 or 2 6 strings and my 12 string anyway for the church service. Electrics don't really get any hands on anymore, but I'm keeping them.

I have a 2001 Bourgeois Vintage D (adi/Indian rosewood dread) and a 2004 Martin D-18 Golden Era. The Bourg stomps the 18 and most other Martins I come across at bluegrass jams, but I've played Thompsons and Pre Wars that were louder/more aggressive. I can't get rid of the 18 because it was my only guitar for about 12 years.

(not that anyone asked)

I have 12, plus my wife has 2 more. So 14 that are ours in the house. We are also keeping about 12 more for a friend of the family who is doing a large home rebuild project. I need to get those extras out of my music room.

I thought I will never sell my Martin 00-15M. But 2 days ago, I sold it to a nice University student who was really happy to get a good deal. I videoed him playing and singing a song with his “new” 00-15M just so that I know it’s going to someone who will enjoy playing it.

Also posting here to revive this old thread that has 1166 voters but many new members here may not have seen this poll (thread) and have not voted yet. Please vote if you wish to.

Despite barely being able to play anything at all (not kidding), I have six.
  • Seagull S6 cedar
  • Yamaha FG750(?) spruce
  • MIM Player's Strat
  • Martin 000-15SM
  • Cordoba C9
  • Recording King Series 11 Parlor

The list is highly likely to get bigger. I may eventually heave-ho the Yamaha, and my gut tells me that there's a hollow body electric in my future at some point. I need to venture out beyond flattop acoustics and the Strat eventually.

Default How many guitars do you own?

3 acoustics and 2 basses.
The acoustics are unique in what they are designed for. The 2 basses are a Fender Jazz and Squier P. The P is because it was inexpensive and easily upgradable….IMG_1711744772.014302.jpgIMG_1711744879.005712.jpg

Pretty much.

As long as you can afford the guitars and it makes you (and your significant other) happy, buy those guitars. I realised that everyone’s optimal number of guitars vary according to the poll.

Continue playing and you’ll improve. Or watch some YouTube guitar lessons for beginners.

I'm pretty happy with my small guitar collection. At my age it's not likely to change, up or down, in the foreseeable future.

I have several that haven't been out of the closet for a few years, so too many!
