Default Belated NGD - Lowden F23 fan fret

I found a Lowden I can afford! Got this used from the Fellowship of Acoustics in the Netherlands - it’s ten years old and pretty dinged up, but that just means I can play it without fear for dings and dents. I held off posting for a few days, because it also came with a thuddy G on the sixth string, but I think that’s been sorted. I’m looking to use it for low tunings - I have a couple songs in open B minor - so the extra bass scale length really helps.

Congrats….I’m drooling. I love the 23 series…I think walnut/cedar is what Lowden does best! I’ve had several great experiences with TFOA in Holland. Good luck!

Congratulations and I'm glad you sorted out your low G, TFOA are a great company to deal with.

Thanks guys, I’m really liking this so far. I’m not sure what strings shipped on it, but they were a little too mellow for me. I put a set of Daddario XS on - my go tos- but they might be little bright. Any recommendations for strings on a cedar top guitar? I’ve never had one before.

Congratulations!

Good find!

I use Elixir PB 12s, love them, on my 3 Lowdens......and I have never seen let alone play a fan fret. Looks cool.

I owned a 0-23 for 12 years ........MUCH longer than any other guitar I have owned. I believe you're correct in your assessment of the walnut/cedar combo.

Thanks! I’ve got some elixirs laying around, so I’ll try those next. I feel like the XS might be taking away from that cedar warmth a little.
This is 25-26.75” scale I think. I thought I saw elsewhere that the metric numbers are 630-680mm, which doesn’t quite match up. Either way, the extra length on the sixth string makes a huge difference in low tunings.

I’ve never owned a fan fret but I would think Elixir PB Bluegrass 56-12 would sound amazing on that thing! Have fun experimenting….
