Just thought of another one from Paul Kantner and Grace Slick

"You call it rain, but the human name, doesn't mean s***t to a tree"

"There are people running 'round who'll screw you up
when they would rather screw you down..." -- Arthur Lee

And while Arthur Lee comes to mind:
"This is the time and the life that I am living,
And I'll take each day with a smile --
For the time that I've been given's such a little while
And the things that I must do consist of more than style --
There are places that I am going --

"This is the only thing that I am sure of:
That everything that's living has to die
And there'll always be some people who will wonder why
And for every happy hello there will be good-bye
There'll be time for you put yourself on --

"Everything I've seen needs rearranging --
And if you should think that that is strange,
Then you should be the first to want to make this change,
And for everyone who thinks that life is just a game,
Do you like the part you're playing?"

I'm just flickin' ash
Into the tray
Tell 'em both
It'll be OK
But I'm just blowin' smoke

That's part of a verse and the first line of the chorus to Blowin' Smoke by Kacey Musgraves.

I think I posted something else earlier in this 21 page thread, but it's an ever changing thing with me. This weeks ear wig is from Townes Van Zandt's 'Snowin on Raton':

Tomorrow the mountains will be sleepin’
Silent ‘neath the blanket green and blue
And I shall hear the silence they are keepin’
And I’ll bring all their promises to you

Even Jon Anderson from "Yes" admits it`s just words, no deep hidden message.
Love this band, Steve Howe is what got me interested in playing. I never understood most of the lyrics but, for some reason, they worked and at times seemed to have emotional weight. The mellow section of Close to the Edge; "I Get Up, I Get Down" is still haunting to me. Oh well, the magic of music.

Well over the 300 post mark on this one. We like to close up threads when they get this big to keep the software happy. Seems to be pretty popular, though, so if someone wants to start a sequel, go right ahead.
