Gibson thin line archtops
Hi all-
I have a '63 Gibson ES-120T. My question is does anyone else play these style of guitars only acoustic as I do? Also what strings do you use? I have been using acoustic lights and am amazed at the volume this thing has. No it doesn't drowned out my dreads, but it sure can hang. Thanks, Bill Edit: Does anyone know if the ES-120T would fit in an ES-335 case? |

According to the 1963 Gibson catalog, an ES335 case has the same model number as an ES125T which is the same size as the ES120T.

I play a 1965 ES-330TD and a 2009 CS-356 acoustically a lot around the house - mainly because I am too lazy to set up an amp and plug them in.
Older Gibsons would have originally come with "Sonomatic" strings which were fairly heavy gauge with a wound third string which will generally give better intonation. |

I've always loved the ES225 but I do have a really nice Epiphone thinline with Gibson mini's in it:

I have an ES 225T. I told this story before I think..
A friend in the USAF in Homestead fl got it for a Christmas present and had no interest in it so he sold it to me including a pretty nice amp. Both for 150.00. That was in 1959. I played it in bands till the 70's. I sold it to my brother and felt really bad about selling it. A few years later my wife bought it back and gave it to me for Christmas. Still have it today. |

I have a 1963 Epiphone Granada which is essentially the same guitar as your ES-120T. I play it mostly acoustic although I do plug it in occasionally. I use Thomastik-Infeld Swing Series Flatwounds and it sounds surprisingly loud and useful unplugged. Those Kalamazoo wizards knew how to build hollowbody archtops!
