Default Vintage Mandolin - any ideas?

Here are the photos of the front and the headstock. Looks to be Brazilian rosewood (?) back and sides. Has nice inlay, bone saddle, wooden nut and a standard Bell Brand tailpiece. Forgive the loose string - I broke a tuning button and am looking for another.

Anyone have any ideas of era, maker, etc?

Could be. Washburn is on my 'list'.

I'd guess Weymann or possibly Vega.

Seeing how one of the tuning buttons shattered in my hands, that would be a complete bummer, i.e. no longer all original.

You should be OK, doubt its Lyon and Healy as most of their models were carved tops and backs. Headstock is not similar to their non-scroll models and the wood nut, tailpiece, and top/soundhole trim don't look like theirs. The trim and construction look like some Stahls I've seen.

Good. I've heard Regal thrown around as well.

If you really want to know, take it to Mandolin Cafe. It is the AGF of the mandolin world.

I did just that. This was the response:

I think that was made by the Regal Company. circa 1920

You can get replacement buttons at Stewart McDonald. Replacing the buttons is quite common and acceptable on otherwise "vintage" instruments.

Default mandolin ID

The binding looks like Regals to me. The plate on the back of the headstock like Weymanns or Supertones. I imagine these were readily available to any maker, so that opens other possibilities.

Hi, I have no idea other than to say , here in Europe we would assume that is was American based as this particular shape would be very rare here. There are some German/Austrian shapes similar but -- no , its not from here
Cheers
