For the past 40 years it has been Nils Lofgren. I was a fan before he joined up with Springsteen. He plays finger style rock guitar.

A couple of months ago I got turned on to Pete Hutlinger from a great cover of Darcy's Guitar on AGF by glenwillow. I know Pete isn't under the radar to many on AGF, but his playing was a real revelation to me.

A couple of weeks ago I was listening to a local guy do fantastic fingerstyle covers of pop songs at brunch. Then he played Darcy's Guitar! Turns out he knew Pete and is a huge fan. I highly recommend Glenn Roth if you like this style of playing. He is actually best known for having a lifetime license to busk in NYC public transit, which he still does, but his albums are wonderful. A great composer as well as player. http://www.glennroth.com/

Finally, I can't leave out central Vermont's local hero Duane Carlton, a very good friend of my brother. He is the guy on the left in this video (you can see it even if you don't do Facebook).

https://www.facebook.com/RyanLCoffey...3002180188700/

Duane has a lot of albums and has played with or in support of folks like Garth Hudson and Steve Miller, but chooses to stay home and isn't well known outside of his own stomping grounds. http://www.duanecarleton.com/

Great topic for a thread, Barry!

Funny, I didn't notice this thread. I just posted a thread about a guy I found on youtube who has hardly any views but I have really taken a liking to his playing and singing. He is definitely under the radar, but really enjoyable to listen to.

Fabulous guitar player. Love broke through album was great and I love his song "Time". Saw him do that live back in the 70's at a Maranatha Music night at Disneyland in Anaheim. It was really great.

Judging by all the responses and various names listed so far, most of whom I've never heard of, I think it's fair to say that good guitar players are a dime a dozen. Great ones, exceptional ones, not so.
