Default PAS: Hard As Hoofs for fingernails!

I play flesh and nail on acoustics around the house and use a hybrid style, flat pick and flesh/nail on electrics when I play out.

At 65 seems my nails have changed and they are much easier to break, broke all my nails on my picking hand over the winter, going though the airport toting luggage, etc.

So I embarked on a nail strengthener search and after reading the various reviews settled on "Hard As Hoof Nail Strengthening Cream with Cherry Almond Scent Nail Strengthener & Nail Growth Cream", $9 on amazon w/ shipping for one OZ.

Both my wife and i have been using it since i got it later December, usually once a day (they recommend three times). My wife says her nails are a 1000% better, fixed splitting, reduced ridges on her nails, etc.

My nails are finally going back and for the last month they've been great, nice and hard and no breakage (knock on wood) so far.

One OZ doesn't seem like much but it lasts a long time and sure has been worth the cost of admission, it works great, been around for 25 years, great reviews on Amazon, etc.

I'd recommend HAH without reservation for those w/ nail issues.

Thanks - I'm plagued with paper thin nails that tear and I've been using Hard As Diamonds by SH but I'd like something to strengthen not just coat the nails.

I juts ordered some form Amazon.

I have a vitamin D deficiency, inherited from my mother, and that makes my nails brittle.

I take vitamin D supplements, keratin, and use Hard as Nails from Sally Hansen (clear coat polish).

I'm going to check this out. I have always had tough nails but my thumb nail has started chipping and splitting. I have been using an Alaska Pik but I'd like to go back to my own thumb nail.

Seems like it is worth a try. I am always getting my hands and nails beat up from work.

Well, I don't know if it's working or coincidence or because I've been even more diligent about protecting my nails.

It's only been two weeks. About 3 weeks ago I started taking Osteo Biflex after injuring a finger joint and feeling some knee cartilage creaks from running. Those made me conscious of how important my jints are so I jumped on that band wagon.

About 2 weeks ago I bought hard as hoof and have applied a tiny bit 3x a day, mostly to just my picking hand.

I'm not sure but I've had to file/trim my nails twice a week now and I have not scraped chipped or torn a nail tip (and all I've been doing is playing fingerpicked steel strings).

Again, it seems way too early for positive results but, whatever, I'm happy so far.

Been using the stuff for about a week....No noticeable differences yet. However, I don't care for the "cherry-almond" scent much.

I sent the company an e-mail to the effect that a lot of guitar pickers were buying the stuff and a scent-free offering might be nice.

No reply as yet.

Default I play flesh and nail on acoustics around the house and use a hybrid style,

I was plagued with chips and tears on my picking nails until I discovered that certain string brands are rougher than others. Nowadays I find smooth wound Martin monels, silk and phosphorous and JPearse pure nickels go gently on my old digits.

I will remember this product, so thanks for the recommendation. My nails at age 69 are still plenty hard, but that is probably not going to last forever.

The best thing for your nails is a healthy diet and lots of water. Cut out all the crap food and sugar and you'll be amazed at how strong your nails become.

Also, don't use clippers. Just file them down.

This looks like an alternative. Looks like a lot of the same ingredients too:

Default Hard as Hooves

I spent my $10 plus tax and got some, but it is too soon to see if they make a difference. I am putting it twice a day on my right hand nails, figuring if I break more on the left than the right, then they have done a heck of a job. So far, all breaks and jags are on the right - which is normal.

I bought some and just started using it this week. I put it on and then I wipe it off my fingers. But sometimes my fingers are too greasy and I want to wash them after applying this stuff. I'm not sure if I'm washing it all off when I do that. The instructions aren't that specific.

How do you guys apply it?
