you may have very good luck polishing them out. I recommend Turtle Wax Swirl Remover. Works wonders for light finish marks.

I've used the products from Petros with good results.

Embrace them! It is a Martin guitar, made to be played and pick up proof of that playing...

You will....should learn to get over it, especially with a black guitar.
You may get 'em out , but it will happen again....guaranteed.

I know things like that seem like a bummer when the guitar is new, but it kinda goes with the territory imo.

EXACTLY. I'll take THAT Gibby of Springsteen's over any brand new guitar on planet earth. I could name a bunch other "beat up" guitars that I'd say the exact same thing about.

While I dont go out of my way to relic my guitars , scratches , dings , etc are a fact of life. It doesnt make it sound or play any different , and in the end thats what is most important. Enjoy your guitar.

You can do a couple of things:

1) Don't care about it as others have stated - its a guitar
2) Improve your picking technique
3) Go finger style

You could do a combination of 2 and 3 to get there.

That's what I sort of did.

I'm not Obsessive Compulsive on pick scratches, but I do value guitar tops for if and when I do sell.

Its ended up being sort of a mixed bag for me.

One of these days, I'll start a thread on that.

for now , you can always get the clear, removable pickguard material to put below the pickguard. it's like 5 bucks or something. just cut it as you need it and stick it on. it leaves no residue when it's removed. simple solution.

I am pretty protective of my cherished possessions.

I got my best and most expensive guitar 18 months ago.

A spring capo sprung out of my hand and, in slow motion twirled and fell on the side, leaving a ding the size of half grain of uncooked rice.

My howling was heard for blocks around.

I agonized on polishing and waxing it out.

Hmmm.....doesn't bother me. Its an incredibly beautiful guitar.

The shock of that first imperfection is what got me. Its like that first shopping cart ding on your brand new mercedes...../shrug - it happens

Remember what Rod Stewart said: "The first cut is the deepest"
Now it's your guitar! Congratulations.

Actually, while Rod Stewart sang it, Cat Stevens wrote it!
