Oh man... I definitely don't need another Yamaha L series...But I WANT one now. Especially one of those new mahogany models.

And big props to Julian Ward for being able to do the whole pitch while someone was drumming away in the background. He's a pro

Default Indication of prices

First indication of prices for the new L series (all ARE tops) on Gear4Music in the UK. Just the rosewood 6 and 16 models at this stage, also giving an indication of colors available. The prices look good, even better value than than before, as there's the 'zero impact' passive pickup as standard on all...

I had the chance to try out a new & improved LL16 at Sam Ash after getting a note from Musicians Friend that I had a $172 surplus on the books that would go to a state fund if not spent by a July 22. I really liked the solid wood LL16, but I'm real ok with the laminated LL6. I called MF and took the plunge. After using my $172 and getting a non-advertised 15% discount, it came to me for $329. The differences from the old LL6 http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music...eries/feature/ are real. I was fine with the old neck profile, but I so much prefer the new profile. Action, tone, and playability are spot-on for me and even the laminated LL6 came with a hardshell case. I haven't tried the "zero impact pickup" but it seems to be getting positive reviews. Yamaha has also wised up and begun using tortoise pickguards rather than black one. I don't like gold so I'l be installing a set of chrome Grovers as well as a bone saddle. I think this lowly laminated Yamaha has legs...

Yeah, reduces my interest in the line as well. My hand prefers thicker neck profiles - they let me play a lot longer with less hand problems. Oh well, I don't need another guitar anyway.

Are the nut width and string spacing still the same?

I measured 1/16" wider string spacing on the new L model and an actual 1 3/4" nut on both so I'm guessing that that the thinner profile of the neck is the improvement I'm feeling...

1/16" doesn't sound much, but for some reason I can feel those minute differences. Definitely a welcome improvement and would make me seriously consider getting one sometime in the future.
