I haven't tried to confirm this, because it don't matter to me.
I've heard they're made in the same factory.

I've played a BR160 and liked it a lot. Havent played a RD227.

Misunderstood, thought you were asking what would be better than those two examples.

I'll say the RK is better. The guy down the street from me will swear the BR is the one. You'll hear arguements for both, and to be honest I've seen fine examples from both companies. One big difference between models listed is the BR is mahogany back and sides, the RK227 is rosewood. So they should sound fairly different. Have the seller put new strings on both and play them. One is bound to impress you soundwise more than the other. Also one may play and "feel" better or more comfortable which also counts for a lot. If you've narrowed a search down to these 2 guitars ya gotta play them side by side to make a choice.

They are both Rosewood based on what the websites say.

I can't really comment on those models but can only shower praise on Eastman's dreads. Have you looked at those???

It seems you can't go wrong with either. Play them both, get the one that plays, sounds, and feels best to you. If they are even, factor in looks. Have fun selecting and getting to know your new guitar.

I just bought a like new Recording King RD227. It sounded better to me than the Blueridge BR160. I also like the neck on the RK and it was a wider neck than the Blueridge. I did have a new set of Elixir strings PB installed. It sounds great for the money. Thanks everyone for all you help.

After you decide just don't ever second guess yourself with your purchase. Play it and enjoy it.

Good choice, I prefer the wider neck. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal.

I have been drooling over the RD-227 for a while. That would be my choice. They sound great!

The real question should be "Which sounds better and which plays better?" I would play both and pick the one that sounds and plays better.

If I had to choose between playability and tone, I would choose playability, despite the fact that money can fix playability but can do little for tone. But there is nothing worse than having to fight your instrument in order to make music.
