Personnally i like the vintage models -a touch of the old .
Thou i dont have a HD-28V , I do own a OM28v ( I love that guitar ! )
tough call thou on the D-18MD or the HD-28v , i think their both excellent choices -depends on the day

I like Guild dreadnoughts best. I'd have to choose between the D40 Traditional and the D 55.
The mahogany back and sides guitar usually win out for me. The sonic difference between mahogany and rosewood, on a well-built guitar, don't justify the additional price of rosewood.
I'd probably pick the D40. (I'd have to play the guitars.) Visually, I prefer mahogany.

I voted for the D-18. Since you wanted a mahogany backed Hummingbird, the D-18 would at least be close in tone woods. The Modern Deluxe models have a lot of nice upgrades as well.
