Default Led Kaapana at the Brass Toucan

In between shows Led and I spent some time in my little studio and I got unlazy for a couple of days and put up cameras to catch some of the fun.

Nani Ka`ala is an old song that chronicles a trip around O`ahu. In the lyrics the song passes through Kailua where I visit and Kane`ohe where Led lives, but we're cranking out an instrumental version here, so no matter.

Led pulled out his magnificent Moore Bettah tenor uke http://www.moorebettahukes.com/ for this number, so I used my F guitar, a CA OX Raw tuned to F taropatch, or open G lowered a whole step.

For many of us slackers, Led's instructional video with Bob Brozman https://www.homespun.com/shop/produc...dward-kaapana/ was a crucial piece of the puzzle. And the song that showed us how to be "nahenahe" was an original by Led called Slack Key Lullaby. We did this track in G, with Led on his 90s 000-16 and me playing my Wingert E, both in open G or taropatch tuning.

Thanks, guys. It's certainly a very simple piece, but it captures the relaxing quality that is an important part of the slack key ethos.

Thumbs up Ledward

When I lived on The Big Island Of Hawaii my home wasn't far from
where Ledward & his family lived .

I felt so lucky and fortunate to have been in his presence many times as he and
his family played at Harry K. Brown Country park in Kalapana - wow , that
whole area is under 30 feet of lava now - deep sigh -

His talk story is as great as his playing. Met him a few times, always good to hang with.

Very nicely done, both the music and the camera work.

Kalapana is still a scene even with the impact of the lava. Led took us to Hawai`i Island a couple of years ago and we visited the lava field where folks are building homes and communities on the lava. The Awa Bar is a happening spot that draws an amazing crowd for an open market and dance party a couple of times a week. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kalap...48739125185258

Alooooooooooha bra :

Ah Puna district . Many of my hanai musicians tell me about this place called Uncle Robert's Awa Bar .
I was gift some of stuff they serve there in a little brown paper bag - ¡ That stuff is potent !
Wish I could get it here on the mainland .

Things sure look like they have changed there since I left . I miss Puna to da max . I lived in Hawaiian Shores ,
I also lived downtown Pahoa too for a year just behind the Natural Food Store , looks like they
made a parking lot out of that house all I see of it on google maps is the bath house ( old Japanese style ) .
I played a lot of music at the Pahoa Inn just up the street from where I lived and across from
Luquin's ( It was Miguel's then ) Mexican restaurant . I was the chef there .

Oh you play super too man , nice video of you two guys together .
