Default The Day the Music Died

I don't think anyone else has pointed it out yet - 59 years ago today:

I was in a cab ride from the airport a few hours ago and that song (American Pie) played on the radio. I didn't realize today was the day.

I was in 7th grade when I heard the news. No one could believe it.

Mason City, IA... flown over it many times and thought of that fateful night.

I have "The Day the Music Died" on may calendar for today. Read where Waylon Jennings never got over how he and Buddy kidded about the travel. Buddy said "Hope your bus breaks down" and Waylon responded "Hope your old airplane crashes"... Of course all done as horseplay in jest, but how tough would that have been for Waylon. Just read this a few days ago about the conversation he and Buddy had. I don't know if my quotes are 100% word for word, but believe that is the gist of their banter back and forth

On the other hand, Charles Hardin Holley told an interviewer, “Without Elvis, none of us would have made it.”

I was just watching the Crickets on the 50th Anniversary Strat Pack concert BluRay, playing with Brian May and Albert Lee. I was impressed with how energetic they still are to this day. "Breakin' rocks in the hot sun, I fought the law and the law won..."

Definitely talent that was taken from us way too soon

Being born in 1950 I think remember hearing some of their music on the radio
