Practicing "mindfulness" (Vipassana) meditation is also a guaranteed help, but is about a 3-month daily (2xday is best) discipline before you experience the benefits.

Don't have much advice but this is generally what I've been told works.
Get more exercise even going for a long walk each day helps. Stop watching TV before bedtime Stay away from a computer in the evening See a doctor. Your primary care might offer good advice, but if he/she does not refer you to a specialist you need to ask why and insist on a referral. If you have trouble at home, you and your wife need to schedule a session with a counselor or your minister/priest.

Sorry to hear about your situation and sending healing thoughts. One of those thoughts is you have reached out for help and advice on the AGF, which is fantastic. Some smart folks here. Now ask a professional for some guidance.

Though it's hard to see right now this all will pass and you will see that it has turned out as it should have.
Peace my brother

About 40 years ago I had panic attacks after my father’s death. My doctor explained that the symptoms are triggered by a drop in blood sugar that occurs when we are nervous. He advised me to keep a bag of peanuts and a small can of apple juice with me. When I felt annattack coming in I drank the juice to raise my blood sugar and ate the peanuts to keep it level and it actually worked pretty well. Good luck. You will get past this.

Sorry to hear this, AE.
I’m glad Touareg seeing a counselor tomorrow. Hope the initial meeting kindles some hope, and that you maybe even get some helpful input about what to do about the problems at home. There are some good suggestions in this thread: walks, other exercise, etc. Anything that eases the sense of pressure ( and that doesn’t involve alcohol or drugs) is a good place to start. I have been through my share of relationship troubles (though not in recent years). My favorite response was to get out in nature...a short walk in a park during lunch, an afternoon hike, a night at a campsite, a 3 day camping trip ...whatever I could fit in to the other things happening in my life. Almost always helped. Hot baths or a soak in a hot tub can be comforting and tension reducing. Wishing you the best, |

I don't have any magic answers; I suppose each situation is individual.
There is a lot of good advice here, however, and I wish you the best. Greg Rappleye |

I would see a professional to help you stop panic attacks. After Nam I was a bit like that but saw a VA doctors and it helped me a lot. You need a support team, they are all over, don't blow it off.

AE, many good suggestions here. All of them, some of them, or none of them may work for you. I hope you find one or a combination of several that work for you. While I don't want to sound flippant, many years ago when I was going through some very stressful times at my place of work, something that believe it or not helped me is when my father-in-law simply said, "just don't do it." (stress out or let it control me). For some reason that seemingly (over)simple statement resonated with me and helped.
One thing is certain, everyone at some time in their life experiences some type, some length and/or some level of stress. Learning to deal with stress, somehow, someway (again many suggestions in this thread are excellent), is more important (you should make it more important) than the stress itself. Learning techniques to handle stress will help you all through your life when other stressful times pop up--and they will. Good luck.

Great idea to see a specialist, get some medication if need be.
Take a few minutes each night and play some music. It will help restore some balance and contentment. |
