Now that I am planning to increase the existing hole sizes and keep the two dowels near the fretboard I am wondering what the best way to increase the size of the existing holes for the dowels to accept the self-threading thread insert. I think the holes now are 21/64" and need to be increased to 3/8", so not much of an increase. I have a step bit that could increase the top of the hole, but how would I increase the diameter of the entire hole? Could I do so without a drill press or will I need to get a hold of a larger drill press to accommodate the length of the neck (my table top isn't tall enough). Obviously I want the hole to be as straight as possible. Thanks for the assistance.
