For me, these letters bunched together reminds me of what are called "vanity plates" - license plates with whatever somebody is willing to pay extra for instead of the typical number/letter system.

I see these and can figure out maybe half of them, all the time thinking that the only person they mean anything to can't see them because s/he is inside the car, driving. With these letters strung together, they obviously mean something to the person posting the message, but probably half the people reading it have no idea what it is supposed to mean, r if there are multiple possible interpretations, which one the person meant.

If accurate communication is important in a forum, why not just say what we mean in plain English?

Well ya just never know when ya might learn something.

Before Silly Moustache's post I didn't realize the difference between acronyms and initialisms but I just "googled" it and now I know .

I'm guessing the prolific rise of texting has created the "initialism" trend.

However "initialisations" go back a long time, and seem to have blossomed during WW2.

Certainly some words here that I hadn't realised were intiialisations.

I knew a guy in the '80s who's plate read UKSKP. The was a guy in L.A. (Los Angeles to those who do understand acronyms/initials ) His license plate read NO PLATE (that is not an acronym ); this was always getting him in trouble with the LAPD (um, that would be Los Angeles Police Department to the you know whos )

All the common acronyms can be found by Googling "acronyms", "texting acronyms" or "social medium acronyms". Any that aren't there are just made up by the AGFer to confuse the readers.
