Michael does such nice work, and what's even nicer is the sound of his creations. I truly feel his guitars are the best bang for the buck around. Of course I'm a little biased as he's just over the hill from me.

Someday...

Hi DanielDaniel,

I am the happy owner of a wonderful Placencia with an Italian top (and Madagascar back) and a 1 13/16 nut. I received it in 2009, and in my mind I still thank someone here for suggesting to me to check this Michael Bashkin out...
Believe it or not it gets better and better, and Mike is such a great, great guy!

best regards
Massimo

Love Kathy's guitars. Have an German/EIR F that makes my day every time I pick it up. What are you thinking for your guitar/inlay?

Daniel

Hi Danieldaniel--

Another grateful Placencia owner -- and mine is a fan-fret as well. Great choice of builder, and beautiful woods -- you're in for a treat! I'm really looking forward to seeing your build pictures.
The scale on mine varies from 25.4" to 26" -- are you more comfortable with the shorter scale?

Somewhat simple celtic patterns. twisted triangle on the heelcap, Jimmi's asymmetric knotwork rosette, and a wolfhound in honor of my best buddy Connor, the abominable snowman-like creature that wanders around my house. I'll post photos around 0800 when I get home from graveyard shift.

Thanks. I Like the lower tension and the sweetness of the short scale in standard tuning, but not so keen on the bass esp when I drop tune in dadgad. Hopefully this gives me the best of both worlds.

More pictures. Back of headstock is flamed Panamanian rosewood.

The body got started this week. First question was how to cut the sides...
We went with choice one; keep most of the flame and put it closer to the top.

Prepping the sides. Michael recommended single sides with solid kerfing/lining over double sides to keep it lighter and more responsive. He reckoned not much difference in stiffness of sides.

Congrats on the new build, Michael build exquisite guitars. I see you will have both a Baranik and a Bashkin as I do - really wonderful instruments from two builders at the top of their game in my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing this come together.

Thanks

I found your Bashkin build thread really helpful when I was working out what I wanted.

As a matter of interest, how do your Bashkin and Baranik compare/contrast?

Rather then doubling the sides, Michael suggested solid kerfing/lining to keep the overall weight down....

There's a thread around here from LeGuyt that has solid kerfing. Cool!
