97 takamine ltd preamp replacement suggestions please
I used this guitar for bar gigs for 12 years without a single problem, but it has been ten years since I played out (became a father) and I need to play out again-and my preamp is dead.it is an accuracoustic, and I was going to cut a bigger hole and drop in one of the cool tubes.Any suggestions on which one?
Best place to get it? Any help would be appreciated.thank you |

You won't have to make the hole bigger, the CoolTube will drop right in. It did on my 98 LTD and I'm pretty sure yours has the same preamp that mine did. As far as where to get it, wherever you find the best price. Just be sure you are getting the latest revision, I don't know what version they are on now (CTP-3 I think).

I was told by esp the cool tube would not fit
It took forever to get in touch with anyone at tala mine, and I was told by esp that the cool tube would not fit my guitar.i think I will order one,and if I have to cut the opening bigger and get a new chassis I will.there are so many versions of the cool tube-does anyone have a favorite? And why?

Fshn,
Is your '97 LTD the Gecko? If it is the Cooltube will fit perfectly. John

I play through a Bose L1Model II and to my ear it is a spectacular pairing. |

Yes,it's a gecko model
I know a lot of folks dislike takamine, but I gigged 4hr sets 2-3 nights a week for a decade straight without a single issue.i haven't played it an hour in the last 10 years and now the preamp is dead, from what I have read-mine held up a lot better than most.it sounded quite nice also,I play through a peavey powered mixer with two 15 peavey speakers on stands that are the same age.ill keep my fingers crossed that nothing else goes down on me.

I have a P5NC (currently for sale) and it has the CT4-dx. I actually prefer it to the Cool Tube, which is on the Pro 7 series. I also purchased a CT4 for my parlor Takamine which is about 20 years old. It fit perfectly and it sounds awesome. It's a very versatile preamp, as I'm sure you know.

Had the same problem with my '96 Santa Fe Taka, and changed only the caps. They were dead. Sounds great with the original preamp, the CoolTube eats batteries much too quickly, and my pedals helps me to get the same sound as CT
