Default Simple/cheap room treatment tips?

Aside from preventing sound to leak out of the room and annoy your neighbours how does insulating the walls and doors help with recording? I heard it stops the sound from bouncing off walls?? This is good?

I bought some plastic/foam (I really don't know what this material is) stuff that are supposed to help and posted them on my wall. Does this help or is my room now ugly for no reason?

Any other tips? Thanks

Your room is probably ugly now for no reason.

Look up Ethan Winer on the internet and study his site.

Acoustic mineral wool is quite cheap if you want to build your own. Check out the health and safety stuff first though.

There are 2 separate issues: One is controlling the sound generated inside the room. The other is keeping your sound from getting out and outside sounds from getting in. Foam will have an effect on the 1st but does nothing with regard to the second.

Default "Treatment" Video's & More

Yet another homework assignment for the student, Chen. Do your homework!

DIY From Fran Guidry:

http://www.homebrewedmusic.com/2009/...-on-the-cheap/

DIY Acoustic Panels - Check out the 30 sec. mark:

Another 703-related Link:

Check out Ethan Winer's book & sites. Search this for "room treatment" resources. There are many & he's THE expert:

http://www.ethanwiner.com/

Home Recording's treatment forum:

http://homerecording.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?f=20

A brief but useful discussion for student types like you at Gearsultz. Check out the 'Treatment' forum at GS for thousands of threads.

You may not know what "mover's blankets" are (I mentioned before to you) but that may be the cheapest answer to your treatment prayers along with mineral wool. Check out Gearsltuz for those discussions.

One last VERY useful bit of info:

Chen, you need to inform yourself by reading more - so you can ask the right questions at these sites. Then you'll receive better responses. It's OK to be a beginner. Just try to be an informed beginner in theory at least. Then we can help you more.

Two things to take from this post: 1) everyone needs room treatment for recording, 2) Gearslutz is THE place for you to check out.
