Default Monaco GP Qualifying

Great qualifying session in Monaco. Ferrari just killed it. Good showing by both Red Bulls. Bottas did another great job for 3rd. Lewis knocked out in Q2 so expect a lot of complaining on his radio tomorrow.

Raikonnen was super excited, his heartbeat might have hit 70

That was a great qualifying. So happy to see Kimi on pole and Sebastian next to him. What a great season it's been so far.

It should be fun watching Lewis try to make his way through the field at Monaco.

I had a bad day/night yesterday so being good for nothing, I ensconced myself in front of the TV to watch the entire SKY coverage of the three Quali sessions , and stayed awake until Q3!.. and so missed the excitement.

The real time on board cameras they have now really show you what a brutal track Monaco is - It can't imagine how anyone manages to make it round.

I don't support any team or driver as such but I don't suppose I'm the only Brit who is secretly waving his little flag for Jenson Button, even though a seemingly rather silly rule has put him at the back of the pack.

I believe that Ferni will be doing his oval racing thang on Sunday as well, and whilst I know little of this aspect of motor sport, I'd quite like to watch his adventures if there is some what to do so from the UK.

Watched it this morning and really enjoyed it. Glad to see Grosjean put the Haas in seventh. Thought Magnusson was going to do better with the other one...he looked good in Q1.

Hamilton down in 14th really surprised me, but it doesn't take much to ruin a run. It'll be fun to see how the Ferrari boys do tomorrow.

One thing I missed...why was Button given a 15 place grid penalty?

It'll be racing on tv all day for me tomorrow. Monaco at 730am, Indy at noon, and Charlotte at 5pm. My BIL is coming over with his psycho dog around noon tomorrow and we'll grill dogs, burgers, and corn while watching Indy and Charlotte. He's a huge Denny Hamlin fan (and retired from FedEx).

I'm not sure but at the last race they mentioned that due to upgrades and changes Honda is making, they would be racking up grid penalties for a while to come. They have apparently exceeded the changes allowed by F1 for the entire season. The other car crashed in Q2 so Button was the only one subject to penalty.

Yup, I understand that, but as one of the commentators said - why not penalise the team rather than the driver(s) - seems more sensible.

Obviously - I'm not an expert on such things - I just like to see the pretty cars go round and round.

They basically are penalizing the team. Wouldn't have mattered who the driver was and both cars would have been pushed back had VanDorn not crashed.

They set up a system of penalties for using more than a set number of specific power train components. It was supposed to be a cost containment program but I'm not sure it's been effective. They didn't want the rich teams to be able to change expensive parts regularly and gain an advantage.

Well, frankly, it was a pretty boring procession until ...was it ...lap 61?

Wehrlein is a bit of a mobile chicane, but Jenson was , perhaps a bit hasty.

I don't think that Raikkonen is very happy with the result ....but how would you tell?

Monaco is always a "strange" race, and despite having a monarchy (well principality) - it always seems a little disorganised at the end.

Oh well - on the Canada in a fortnight.

Dump this boring as heck race from F1. I can't stand a race without a chance for passing anywhere. Gag me.

It will never be dumped - because it is the "home" town for most of the guys, but you do have a point, esp. as the cars are significantly wider this year.

I think it's exciting to watch them run there. I get that the track is too narrow, almost no place to pass yadda, yadda, yadda, but it's still amazing to watch what those drivers do there.

I loved Jenson's response to Alonso when he called and told him to take care of his car just before the race started.

That was a good one. I wonder if he actually did it after flipping Wehrlein?
