Default 1966 Martin d35

Hey all, found a 66 d35 and trying to find what a good value/offer would be to make on it? Its a solid player, pretty checked finish and a couple repairs on the top but neck has been reset along with fret so plays and sounds fantastic...I know there are quite a few Martin fans on this forum, so wanted some feedback..thanks,

I remembered that Mass Street Music in Lawrence Ks had a similar D35, 1967. It is sold but here is the link that you can look over. It is still posted on their website.

$5500 for that guitar seems a little on the high side to me (I'm thinking in today's market it's a $4800 guitar).

Certainly has a striking back on it and a great 60's D-35 is on my personal bucketlist!

I have been seeing this one on local craigslist for a few weeks at $4000. Looks pristine. https://boston.craigslist.org/nos/msg/6040317630.html

There was also another 1967 that recently sold in a local store for $4400.

A 1966 version should be Brazilian rosewood, so it might command a premium accordingly. It was sometime in 1967 that Martin switched over to EIR as their stocks of BRW ran low. I don't know the exact dates, but Todd Yates will likely comment on that. He is the resident Martin guru around here.

The switch was in 1969.

That '66 D-35 will bring less than a D-28 of the same year.

A D-28 of that year, depending on originality, repairs, condition (including need or not of neck reset or relief adjustment) might go for $3500-5,000.

I would use this for my offer. If it's not as nice, and it sounds like it, less than $4000. You can always offer on this one.

It has a recent fret job and neck reset. The top is finish checked to the max, with a couple repairs...the back and sides are surprisingly in good esthetic condition. Currently sitting in my local GC for $2499

If you've played it and like it, that's a good price (without seeing it of course).

Did some more digging. Found that although the local GC store tag said 1966, on their website it was listed as a 1972. I questioned the local store about the discrepancy and they looked at the model number and it ended up being a 1970.
The guitar sounds great, playes well but in my research $2499 is overpriced. I'm glad I kept digging as if I would have bought it as a '66, thinking it was a great price, Brazilian etc, and then tried to sell it later and found out...ouch..,would have been a bit hot with GC....

Bummer. Had a moment like this with a too good to be true 62 fender that turned out to be a 78 lol.
