Default Liljestrom Octave Mandolin

Hi guys!

Thought some of you might also be interested on mandolin family instruments. I have started an octave mandolin build this week, here are the specs:

Romanian spruce top
Roasted arctic birch back and sides
Custom blue paua/marquetry rosette
23,5 inch scale
Wenge fretboard, headplate
Mahogany neck

This will be a flat top design

Very nice! Hadn't a clue about octave mandolins until Pandora played Sarah Jarosz's "Ring Them Bells" - now a favorite.

Your choices look great!

Thanks for posting.

Phil

I second that! That is one of the nicest rosette I have seen! Simply gorgeous. I can't wait to see the rest.

Is that something to worry about?
The guys of Asgard Guitars told me on saturday that birch is tricky to bend and cracks or splits easily when you are doing it. At least the flame birch that they've used does.

Yes it is quite brittle to work with, needs to be moist enough or it'll crack
