It's being rubbed in. Sorta like finger paints. Then it's rubbed back off.
I've been experimenting with different kinds of ink, and some purchased yesterday had an interesting effect on the pearl, of lightly staining it.
Think I'll leave it as is for now, especially at fretboard's end, which never gets any traffic. If Tom really likes the effect, we'll have to find a way to seal it in further up the board.
We appreciate the kind remarks for sure--thanks all!

Steve

Hmmmm...

As a Scotsman, I am going to guess that you are going for this for the next inlay-

Vera nice!!! At one point we did have that in a potential design for the end of the fretboard, Ryan had done a great design and sketch, but I thought the St. Andrew's Cross was more fitting, but in the end we went another way. I think you will recognize the 12 fret design we have chosen and I am anxious to get your take on it!!!!!!

So for those who may not be familiar with the flower of the thistle, here is a pic of the real thing:

Now for the little medallion at the end of the fretboard, that was designed not as a stand alone feature, but as a framework for inlaying another thistle which will mirror the one in the fifth fret as follows, inlayed nicely by Steve...

Thank you again for following alone especially now our Scotish friends!!!

Looking good boys!

I had a feeling there was more to the medallion. I'm not Scottish, but if I were, I'd be hard pressed to choose between the thistle and this...

No, but really, what a remarkable way to show off your heritage!

The stylized version looks exquisite. Love the way you are working in the Scottish elements. Nice job!

yeah I see your point, but I think for the overall look of things, we may have just maybe made a better artistic choice...maybe not...yeah, I think we did

Tom, very cool guitar. I really like the design you chose on the fingerboard. Gorgeous. Can't wait to see it done!

Default The sturdy thistle

I've been following this thread since the start. Great wood choices and great design. I love the use of the thistle in the inlay, a robust and regenerative plant!

Thank you for following!!! Thank you also for your compliments. The back and sides although not a complete unknown are sort of a mystery. I have it from good sources that the box really boomed once together!!!

I hope to post more pictures on Monday of further fretboard inlay work.

I have been following your build as well. You are really doing some different things with the top in terms of the rosette and bridge plates and bracing. Cool to see for sure. I will be watching until hopefully we can hear her sing!

Looking forward to hearing it!

Thanks for taking a look at my build, the bracing system is a bit different looking but I've had great results with it over the years. I'll get some videos up once it's all strung and done.

A pic for Damian, which is a shot of our previous shop ceiling:

All I need is a Union Jack, and the flag of Wales for a complete collection of countries visited in the UK.
Thanks for following along,

Steve
