Cigar Box Guitars
Anyone else play one? I stumbled across them a few months ago. 3 strings, really easy to play and makes me think outside the guitar rut I’ve found myself in lately.

Have a listen to Justin Johnson and Seasick Steve, if you don't know about either of them already.
This is my interpretation of the CBG: The bridge posts pass through the plank and rest on the biscuit tin. It is fairly quiet, but somewhat dobro-like. It has a magnetic pickup that senses the metal top movement, and it sounds like a piezo. I play it at least as much as anything else I have these days, because I like the tone and I've got more interested in lap steel the past couple of years.

Mine. The T52 one is my favorite.

What tuning do folks use on the three strings?

I think the most popular tuning is g d g, although open d and open e are not uncommon. Also, most people play slide blues on them. I’ve been learning some slide on them but it’s harder than it looks, for me, at least. It’s definitely a technique thing.

I’m strictly a home player. I’ve seen a few videos of gigging bands playing them.

This clip gives an idea of what the T52 sounds like played through a little Yamaha amp. I’d just bought my first looper pedal and I was trying it out. The rhythm and lead were improvised by me on the spot just messing around.
Keep in mind, as you listen to it, I’m a rhythm/fingerstyle acoustic player. I bought the T52 to try to learn some lead electric playing. Point being, don’t expect too much when listening. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sQJ-eQoTmhw
