While the amplifier has two 500 watt RMS sides, similar to QSC, they are electronically limited to a lower wattage. A quality 8" woofer will tipically handle about 400 watts program power and a 1 3/4" diaphragm compression driver will typically handle about 100 watts program power. Since the efficiency rating of the speaker is not provided, it's not cannot be calculated as to how many watts are hitting the speaker coils. That being said, frequency response, accuracy, headroom, acoustical output and coverage are more important than advertised WHATS?!

Hi Ricdoug, Can you clarify what you're trying to say? I'm not understanding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Another option is to use two smaller amps. I'd bet two Loudbox minis would sound better and cover more than one AER compact 60.

Dave, it's common for powered speaker manufacturers across the industry to market the capability of their internal amplifier components, even though those true outputs would fry the speaker coils electronically and/or physically distort the bobbin and/or tear the cone from the speaker basket. This photo is me teaching a close friend's musician son how to replace a $19 buck compression driver in a $400 buck cabinet he blew by biamping a dual 500 watt stereo power amp into it. This compression had a 3/4' driver rated at 30 watts RMS. A 50 watt RMS per side power amp would have been more suitable. The 10 inch woofers had 2" coils and were rated at 350 watts RMS, so they did not sustain damage.

While the AER60 is very efficient with high acoustical output, the Carvin AG200 crushes it in clean output. The AG200 does better with my vocals than the AER60, at 3 times the weight. Ric

I have yet to hear an acoustic amp do vocals well.
What's wrong with hauling around a K8? |

A DBR10, or a K8.2, would be my first choices. Every powered PA speaker will reproduce MP3s from your phone nicely, but I've yet to find an acoustic guitar amp that can do the same (disclaimer: I've not tried them all). Starting with a nice sounding full range system seems like an obvious good foundation to me. As far as weight and size go, there are an enormous number of options in the PA speaker market.

The DBR10 looks like the perfect solution! How does it compare to the K8.2?

They are a compromise. A k10 is only 13 pounds more. |

You would be shocked how good it sounds as an acoustic guitar amp even though there are no effects or EQ (beyond basic PA FOH/Monitor and bass cut switches).

The K8.2 should hit the shelves in the next few weeks. You should go and listen to both and make your decision. I ended up with the Mackie DLM8, which is the same size as your AER but sounds much better. I made my choice between the DLM8 and waiting for the new K8.2 based purely on size. I mentioned earlier that the DLM8 (balanced line level) preamps are weak. So, a mixer, guitar preamp, or Play Acoustic pedal is necessary to make channel 2 useable. The mic preamp one channel one is fine. I use one of these regardless, so I don't find it to be a problem. I pair my speakers with the TC Helicon Play Acoustic pedal, or the QSC TouchMix 8. If you were to get a QSC K8.2, you could fit the mic, cables, Play Acoustic, etc in your backpack, speaker in one hand, and guitar in the other hand. There are bags available for the K8.2 for transport. This setup would be good from 85 dB coffee house gigs to 125 dB rowdy bars. The K8.2 will lie on its side like a monitor and has built in DSP. The Yamaha is also a nice product. Your ears are too sensitive/particular to settle for an acoustic amp. Get a real full range compact 2-way speaker system. The added bonus is that you can use the same speaker with an effects board/speaker simulator for electric guitar. At least, that's one of the reasons I bought mine.
