I've probably been over this ground before, but what I am interested in is what is the benefit of using these 9,11,13 voiced chords over introducing inversions of simpler chords. How do the inversions affect the overall composition and sound of the changes? Does it depend on if it is a 1st or 2nd inversion? Are these used more for fitting changes to a melody line, and the jazz voicing chords are more for stacking chords for overall harmonic changes?
