Anybody use the Taylor ES for recording?
Hi,
I am planning to do some acoustic solo guitar recordings and was thinking if the Expression System in my 2011 GC8 would be useful. Does anybody have experience with this? The acoustic guitar tracks I've made so far have been rhythm tracks for rock band albums, and a simple one-condenser mic setup has been sufficient. But this time it's very different: an instrumental acoustic guitar and nothing else. I would like a wide, spacious sound, so I expect I should add xy- or AB-mics panned hard to the sides? |

I've read of many people doing exactly what you described in their recording. ES + x/y condenser mics. It provides a bit more tonal control.

As long as you have an interface to record the ES at the same time as 2 mics, go for it. I've plugged in at the same time as using 2 mics, and with some fiddling with levels, found adding the ES1.3 can add a little high end definition into the tone. But I've also found just recording with my AKG 220 well-placed by itself gives me a sound I like, too. A lot depends on your tracking room and how it sounds.
